We’re already knee-deep into November, which means Samsung is 3 to 4 months shy from releasing its new Galaxy ‘S’ smartphones. And this is exactly when the rumors and leaks about the device(s) start kicking in! Thanks to one of the acclaimed smartphone leakers – Evan Blass (@evleaks), we now know that the upcoming Galaxy S11 series phones will come in 3 screen sizes.
Samsung broke the tradition of launching two variants in its ‘S’ series phone with the Galaxy S10, which had 3 configurations. So, it’s only natural and hence not quite surprising to find out that the next iteration will have 3 variants too. There are some new changes with the Galaxy S11 though.
Display & Screen
If the leaks are to be believed, the screen size on the smallest Galaxy S11 will either be 6.2 or 6.4-inch. Similarly, the mid-tier will feature a 6.7-inch screen while the top-tier S11 will come with a tall 6.9-inch screen. As for their naming, I guess it’d be fairly correct to assume that Samsung will follow the same route as the previous generation – Galaxy S11e, S11, and S11 Plus.
Interestingly, displays on all 3 phones in the S11 series will adopt Samsung’s signature curved design which could be a bummer to some. 2019’s Galaxy S10e came on a smaller form-factor than its brothers, alongside a flat display panel. The entire tech-community including us praised the S10e for its clever design choices. So, it’s a little disheartening to find out that such an appreciated trend is going to be killed off. Come on, Samsung! You’re better than this!
Another rumor floating around about the S11 is that it’ll come in a taller 20:9 aspect ratio. We’ve already seen this in Samsung’s upper mid-range devices like the Galaxy A70 and A80. More screen space is great and all but eased accessibility is bound to take a hit with such implementation. Let’s just hope Samsung has a trick up its sleeve against it.
5G is the next big thing, yo! Samsung has been pushing for 5G dominance and it’ll continue its effort through the Galaxy S11 as well. We got a single 5G variant in the S10 lineup. On the contrary, the S11 series may have a total of three 5G phones in the lineup. As stated by Evan Blass, the tallest S11 will be 5G capable. On the other hand, the smaller two will come in both 4G/LTE and 5G variant. Therefore, we might be getting 5 Galaxy S11 phones this year!
Moving on, we have a possible lead on the S11’s camera as well! According to another famous leaker – Ice universe (@UniverseIce), the Galaxy S11 will use a second-gen 108MP lens. Xiaomi’s recently launched Mi CC9 Pro (or Mi Note 10) became the world’s first smartphone to incorporate a 108MP lens, which was co-developed by Samsung and Xiaomi. However, the Galaxy S11 may house a second-gen 108MP ISOCELL Bright HMX sensor.
Note: This article is entirely based around leaks from a couple of acclaimed smartphone leakers. Many of their leaks have proven to be accurate in the past. Nonetheless, it is entirely possible that they may be wrong this time.
