Sony FX2 launched as the newest “FX” line camera

Sony has introduced the FX2 as the latest model in its FX cinema camera series. This model follows the FX9, FX6, FX3, and FX30, and shares design elements from both its Alpha and FX lines. Sony FX2 Overview

Design and Build

Sony FX2 comes in a compact FX3-style body. The device features the internal hardware of the Sony a7IV with professional video capabilities. In addition, it includes an active cooling system and built-in mounting options.

Sensor and Image Output

The FX2 includes a 33MP full-frame sensor, which is unofficially the same as the one used in the a7IV. Furthermore, it supports dual-gain architecture with base ISO levels of 800 and 4000. It claims to offer a wide dynamic range.

Sony has added a tilting 3.68 million-dot EVF to the FX2. This is a rare addition in FX series models. The FX2 comes with improved still image functions. It also allows Log shooting for stills.

Video Recording

Sony FX2 captures oversampled 4K from a 7K readout at up to 30P. It can also record 4K at 60P using a Super 35 crop. In addition, it supports internal 10-bit 4:2:2 recording with S-Log and S-Cinetone. External 16-bit raw video can be recorded via HDMI. Furthermore, it can shoot 120P slow-motion in Full HD.

Ergonomics and Audio

The FX2 includes the FX3’s physical design, which supports better airflow. It also offers an optional XLR audio handle and multiple mounting points. This design removes the need for external cages in most cases.
