Here's an overview of the Apple iPhone 14.
iPhone 14
Design, Display
The iPhone 14 retains the same design as its predecessor. That means a big notch on the front and camera lenses aligned diagonally on the back. The entire body is made of aerospace-grade aluminum and is dust and water-resistant to IP68 standards.
Similarly, a Ceramic shield protects the iPhone 14's front. The screen size is 6.1 inches, and as expected, it's a SuperRetina XDR OLED display with Dolby Vision HDR, P3, and True Tone support. Other display features include a peak HDR brightness of 1200 nits and a 60Hz refresh rate. Sadly, there’s no 120Hz ProMotion this time as well.
Performance
The device features a 15 Bionic chip, an upgrade over the latest A16 Bionic. However, this version includes a 5-core GPU, the same as in last year's flagship iPhone 13 Pro models. Consequently, it offers an 18% performance boost over its predecessor. Storage options include 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB.
Cameras
The iPhone 14's camera setup includes dual rear lenses: a 12MP wide-angle sensor with a larger f/1.5 aperture and sensor-shift OIS, along with a 12MP ultra-wide-angle lens. These larger sensors, combined with the new Photonic Engine, significantly enhance low-light photography. This engine, a blend of hardware and software, boosts the main sensor's mid- to low-light performance by 2.5 times and the ultrawide and front cameras by 2 times. Additionally, the front camera now supports autofocus for selfies and video calls.
Battery
In terms of battery life, the iPhone 14 can provide up to 80 hours of audio playback and up to 20 hours of video playback. It charges with a 20W adapter and takes about 30 minutes to reach 50% capacity. There is also support for 15W MagSafe Wireless and 7.5W Qi wireless charging.
Extras
With the iPhone 14 series, Apple introduced a "Crash Detection" feature that utilizes the phone's high-dynamic-range gyroscope and dual-core accelerometer. In the event of a crash, the device automatically contacts emergency services. Additionally, the new Emergency SOS via Satellite feature enables users to send messages even without cellular service by directly aiming the phone at a satellite. Apple has developed dedicated software to guide users on where to point the phone for an optimal connection, as satellites orbit Earth. This service is complimentary for two years in the United States and Canada.
