KZ Castor Overview:
Design and Build
The KZ Castor features a compact in-ear design with a top-and-bottom stacked cavity structure, which helps keep the overall housing relatively small while maintaining space for its dual-driver setup. The design is intended to balance sound performance with wearing comfort. It comes with silicone ear tips, while KZ also offers memory foam ear tips designed to improve noise isolation and comfort. The earphones use a detachable 0.75mm 2-pin cable, allowing users to replace or upgrade the cable when needed.
Audio
The KZ Castor uses a dual-dynamic driver configuration, with one driver dedicated to frequencies around 20–200Hz for bass and the other handling the mid and high frequencies. KZ uses an electronic crossover to help the two drivers work across their respective frequency ranges. The Castor is available in two versions: the Harman Target Version and the Harman Target with Improved Bass Version. The latter is tuned for stronger low-frequency output while retaining the Harman-based mid and high-frequency tuning.
The IEM also features built-in tuning switches for adjusting the sound. It provides separate two-stage adjustments for the low and mid/high frequencies, allowing users to create up to 16 different sound profiles depending on their preferences. The KZ Castor has a rated frequency response of 20Hz to 40kHz, with impedance and sensitivity varying between the two versions.
Cable and Controls
The included 120cm flat transparent black cable uses a detachable 0.75mm 2-pin connection and is available in both standard and microphone variants. The cable is silver-plated and can be replaced with another compatible 0.75mm 2-pin cable if required. A tuning lever is also included for adjusting the built-in tuning switches on the earphones.
Connectivity and Compatibility
The KZ Castor uses a standard 3.5mm audio connector, making it compatible with smartphones, laptops, PCs, music players, and other devices equipped with a headphone jack. As a wired IEM, it does not require Bluetooth pairing, batteries, or charging, making it suitable for users who prefer a simple plug-and-play audio setup.
