Lenovo ThinkPad E14 Gen 4 (2022) : Overview

Design and Build 

ThinkPad E14 has a hybrid build. The aluminum top makes it feel premium, but the bottom is ABS plastic. It has a 14" FHD display with 45% NTSC coverage. The E14 features an LED backlit keyboard, a Windows Precision glass touchPad, and a familiar Trackpoint. It is relatively light at around 1.6 kg or about 3.5 pounds. It is 324 mm in width, 221mm deep, and has a height of 19mm.

Performance and Memory

ThinkPad E14 Gen 4 is powered by Intel's 12th gen Core i7-1255U processor. It has 10 Cores and 12 Threads. The chip has a base frequency of 3.5 GHz and a max boost frequency of 4.7 GHz.The graphics part is handled by the Integrated Intel Iris Xe Graphics. Lenovo ThinkPad E14 comes with 16GB of soldered DDR4 RAM, but luckily, there is an empty SO-DIMM slot where you can add up to a 32GB stick. Thus ThinkPad E14 can have a maximum of 48GB RAM. You get 512GB SSD with Opal 2.0 security on purchase, which can be further expanded to 2 TB ( 2x 1TB M.2 2242 ) via the extra  M.2 2242 slot.

Battery and Connectivity

What powers the machine is a 57 Wh Li-Po battery. It can play local 1080p video for up to 15.6 hours at 150 nits of brightness. It performed decently on the MobileMark 2018 benchmark as well lasting 11.5 hours at 200 nits. As for connectivity, you get a USB 4 (Thunderbolt 4) port that supports data transfer, Power Delivery 3.0, and DisplayPort 1.4a. You also get an old-fashioned USB 2.0 Type-A port alongside a USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A port, 1 HDMI port, and an Ethernet port. A 3.5mm headphone/microphone jack is also present to meet your audio needs. On the wireless side of things, you get WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1.
