Nothing Ear (3a) Overview
Drivers and Connectivity
The Nothing Ear (3a) comes with a 12mm dynamic driver featuring a PMI + TPU diaphragm for its audio. It supports Bluetooth 6 along with LDAC, AAC, and SBC codecs, with Hi-Res Wireless certification. The earbuds also support dual-device connectivity, Google Fast Pair, and Microsoft Swift Pair for easier pairing across devices. They work with both Android and iOS through the Nothing X app, which also lets you customize various settings.
Audio Features
These earbuds offer up to 45dB of Active Noise Cancellation, along with Adaptive ANC that automatically adjusts the cancellation level based on your surroundings. You also get Transparency Mode and a low-latency gaming mode for different listening needs. For calls, the Ear (3a) uses six microphones, with three on each earbud, alongside AI noise reduction to improve voice clarity. One of its notable features is Audio Snapshot, which lets you record conversations, meetings, voice notes, and even phone calls directly from the earbuds. The recordings are stored in the earbuds’ 32MB built-in storage before syncing to the Nothing X app, where they can also be transcribed using AI.
Battery Life and Charging
Each earbud has a 55mAh battery, while the charging case packs a 500mAh cell. With this setup, the earbuds offer up to 10 hours of playback on a single charge without ANC and up to 42 hours with the charging case. With ANC enabled, the battery life drops to up to 6 hours on the earbuds and 25 hours with the case. A 5-minute charge can provide up to 1 hour of playback. The earbuds also feature an IP54 rating and customizable touch controls, including slide-based volume adjustment.
