Nothing Ear (a) Overview:
Drivers and Connectivity
The Nothing Ear (a) comes with 11mm dynamic drivers that use a PMI + TPU diaphragm for improved sound. It supports Bluetooth 5.3 and audio codecs like AAC, SBC, and LDAC, with Hi-Res audio certification. It works with Android 5.1+ and iOS 11+. You also get handy features like Google Fast Pair and Microsoft Swift Pair for quick device connections. However, unlike the Nothing Ear, the Ear (a) doesn’t support the LHDC codec.
Audio Features
These earbuds offer smart features like in-ear detection, which pauses music when you take them out. There's also a Low Lag Mode to reduce audio delay—especially useful for gaming—and it works automatically with Nothing Phones or through the app on other devices. The Ear (a) stands out for its powerful Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), which goes up to 45dB and adjusts to your surroundings. You can choose from four ANC modes: High, Mid, Low, and Adaptive. Plus, the Clear Voice Technology uses three mics to block out background noise and wind during calls.
Battery Life and Charging
Each earbud has a 46mAh battery, giving you up to 9.5 hours of playback without ANC or 5.5 hours with ANC. With the 500mAh charging case, you get up to 42.5 hours total without ANC or 24.5 hours with ANC. A quick 10-minute charge gives up to 10 hours of playback (no ANC). The earbuds are also IP54-rated for water and dust resistance and come with easy pinch controls for music, calls, and volume.
