OnePlus 13 Overview
Design and Display
Looks like OnePlus is going back to a simpler design with the 13th iteration of its number series. The bold camera module is now replaced with a simpler-looking less protruding island. But besides that, the new smartphone looks pretty similar to its predecessor. One notable improvement is the inclusion of IP68 and IP69 dust and water ratings over the IP65 on the 12. It’s always something that’d be skipped over in OnePlus flagships so good to see it now finally.
The screen is also not as curved as before, opting for a pretty flat panel with slightly curved edges. It’s BOE’s X2 OLED with 8T LTPO tech, QHD resolution, and a peak brightness of up to 4500 nits. The size remains the same at 6.82 inch diagonal but the smartphone itself is slighter shorter but wider than before. And it now features a more secure ultrasonic fingerprint sensor under the screen over an optical one.
Performance and Memory
Under the hood, the OnePlus 13 is packing the Snapdragon 8 Elite fabbed on TSMC’s 3nm process. It boasts new Oryon prime and performance cores for a huge 45% boost in CPU and a 44% improvement in efficiency. There’s also the Adreno 830 GPU with up to 40% better performance. With the new processor, the OnePlus 13 is sure to be a gaming beast, so the company has also included a new gaming vibration motor which is “the biggest in any Android phone ever”
The memory configurations are pretty similar to those before with the base variant sporting 12GB of LPDDR5x RAM alongside 256GB of UFS 4.0 storage. You can spec it up to a whopping 24GB and 1TB but there are no expansion slots or SD inserts. The OnePlus 13 boots on ColorOS 15 in China but the global variant that will launch later will likely sport the company’s OxygenOS skin on top of Android 15.
Cameras and Battery
The rear camera setup has the same primary + ultrawide + telephoto harmony as its predecessor. All three are Hasselblad-optimized 50MP sensors housed in a circular island on the left side. The main is Sony’s LYT 808 with OIS that we recently saw in the OPPO Find X8 Pro, while the 3x periscope is the LYT 600 (also with OIS) and the ultrawide is Samsung’s JN5 sensor. On the front, the 32MP selfie camera is carried over from the OnePlus 12 and has a small 1/2.74” sensor with an aperture of f/2.4.
Following the recent trend in Chinese smartphones, the OnePlus 13 goes with a Silicon Carbide battery over the usual Lithium Polymer ones enabling the company to fit a larger 6000 mAh cell in a similar footprint. The 13 is slightly thicker than OnePlus 12 but the 11% jump in battery capacity is likely a worthy tradeoff.
The charging speeds don’t get any upgrades though sticking to 100W wired, 50W wireless, and 10W on reversed wireless mode. Given the bigger battery, it fills up slightly slower than before, but still impressive reaching 50% in 13 minutes, and 100% in just 36 minutes.
