OnePlus Buds Z2 Overview:
Design
The OnePlus Buds Z2 goes on with an in-ear fit with three silicone tip sizes that best fit your ear out of the box. It inherits the same sleek cylindrical stem as the Buds Z. In fact, next to no changes have been made in terms of design from its previous generation. Plus, the same case, both inside and outside!
The only upgrade made regarding design is it gets an IPX4 rating for the case, which wasn’t the case for its predecessor. However, the buds are provided with the same IP55 certification as in the Z. And the weight has been raised a little; the earpiece weighs 4.6 g, and the charging case is 42 g, to be exact. Additionally, the Buds Z2 provides you with two color options: Obsidian Black and Pearl White.
Sound
Audio is the area where OnePlus has improved the most, though! To start with, there is an 11-mm dynamic driver instead of the 10-mm you get on the earlier version. OnePlus Buds Z2 comes with bass-tuned drivers with support for SBC and AAC codecs. Furthermore, the microphone count has also gone up to 3 (one feedforward, one feedback, and one beamforming), which means a clearer and smoother call experience.
However, the microphones are not just there for calls. This time, the company has implemented active noise cancellation for Buds Z2. These mics, along with some processing, according to their website, can cancel up to 40 dB of noise from external factors. With the ANC comes the transparency mode, which enhances the ambient sound from the surroundings.
Battery
To continue with its comparison with the last gen, the same 40 mAh battery powers both earbuds. Even though A similar battery fuels the OnePlus Buds Z2 (if you compare the capacity), this new TWS can sustain 7 hours of playback. The 510 mAh case provides 31 hours of quality music. Even with ANC enabled, it can last as long as Buds Z without ANC (5 hours). And the case gives 19 hours of backup (with ANC enabled, of course).
Rest of the product
Even though no special codec is found here, the Buds Z promises a latency as low as 94 ms. Other than that, the buds come with Bluetooth 5.2 with Google Fast Pair support. This connection can last up to 10 meters of distancing. The non-OnePlus users need to install the HeyMelody app to enjoy its full features.
