Xiaomi is known for offering smartphones with strong specifications at budget-friendly prices, and its sub-brand, Redmi, follows this approach as well. The Redmi 14C is their budget model for 2024.

      Redmi 14C Overview

      Design and Display

The Redmi 14C, the successor to the Redmi 13C, features a distinctly redesigned look with a large circular camera island centered on the back, replacing the previous squircle design on the side. The color options include Sage Green, Midnight Black, and Dreamy Purple. Talking about the display, the screen on the Redmi 14C has significantly increased in size to 6.88 inches. Despite its large dimensions, the display quality remains modest. It offers only HD+ resolution with a colour depth of 16.7 million colours and 70% NTSC colour gamut coverage. The maximum brightness reaches 600 nits. However, the display does feature a smooth 120Hz refresh rate and a touch sampling rate of 240Hz.

      Performance

According to leaks, the Redmi 14C was expected to feature the Helio G91 Ultra, but it has launched with the Mediatek Helio G81 Ultra instead. This new chipset appears to be an updated version of the G80 processor from 2020. While the core architecture and peak frequency seem unchanged, the G81 Ultra might benefit from a more recent fabrication process, although details on this are scarce at the moment. The Redmi 14C is available in four configurations: 4GB + 128GB, 4GB + 256GB, 6GB + 128GB, and 8GB + 256GB. It uses LPDDR4X RAM and eMMC 5.1 storage. The device supports a memory extension of up to an additional 8GB. On the software front, the Redmi 14C runs on Xiaomi's custom HyperOS right out of the box.

      Camera and the rest

The Redmi 14C appears to feature a four-camera setup on the back, but this is somewhat misleading. Two of the rear cutouts don't contain camera lenses; one houses an LED flash, and the other is simply for branding that reads “50MP AI Camera.” Indeed, the primary camera is a 50MP sensor. Likewise, the second lens is referred to by the company as an “Auxiliary lens” but is otherwise not well-defined, effectively making the phone’s camera system a single-lens setup. On the front, there's a 13MP camera for selfies and face unlock. In terms of battery, the Redmi 14C is equipped with a 5,160 mAh battery and supports 18W fast charging via a USB Type-C port. Moreover for added security, it features a fingerprint sensor integrated into the power button. For wireless connectivity, the phone supports dual SIM, 4G LTE, Bluetooth v5.4, dual-band WiFi, and NFC in certain regions. Check out more Redmi smartphones, HERE!
