Design and Display

Starting with the design, the Galaxy M17 5G has a 6.7-inch Infinity-U-shaped Super AMOLED screen with 1080 x 2340 resolution and a 90 Hz refresh rate panel. The display is decent for everyday usage, but a teardrop notch for a phone under 30k in 2025 is disappointing.

On the design front, Samsung slimmed things down a bit. The phone has a plastic back, measures 7.5 mm thick, and weighs 192 g. It comes in Sapphire Black and Moonlight Silver color options. One thing that’s changed is the camera module, which is more streamlined than the one on the M16. Similarly, the Gorilla Glass Victus protects the display, and the phone has an IP54 rating.

Performance and Software

Inside, the phone comes with Exynos 1330. This isn’t a significant jump from the M16 5G, but this new SoC features 5G connectivity. But the Exynos 1330 isn’t brand new either, as it was launched in 2023. It’s not a gaming-centric chipset, but its performance is decent enough for games like PUBG if played in low settings.

The phone runs Android 15 and will get six generations of OS upgrades plus six years of security updates. That means you’re covered for software improvements and patches for quite a while, but considering the chipset and how quickly the battery erodes over time, six years of software becomes pretty meaningless.

Other features

For cameras, the rear camera setup retains the 50MP primary sensor, a 5MP secondary, and a 2MP depth sensor from its predecessor. Whereas Samsung highlights its optical image stabilization, which reduces blur from “shaky hands,” and the camera supports digital zoom up to 10x. Similarly, you also get a 13MP selfie camera on the front. Regarding battery life, the Galaxy M17 5G still has 5000 mAh and 25W fast charging.
