Here's a quick overview of the latest Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Overview
Design and Build Quality
Starting with the design, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 comes with a slimmer and lighter build compared to its predecessor, weighing just 201 grams. It also features a wider cover display with a 10:16 aspect ratio, making the outer screen feel more like a regular smartphone when folded.
The phone measures 9.7mm when folded and 4.5mm when unfolded. Despite the slimmer profile, Samsung has retained the IP48 rating for dust and water resistance. It also introduces a new Flex Titanium display structure, while the cover display gets an anti-reflective coating for improved visibility outdoors.
The frame is made using Advanced Armor Aluminum, while the rear panel is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is available in Graphite, Cream, and Lavender color options.
Display
Moving to the display, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 features a 7.6-inch Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X inner folding display with a resolution of 1828 x 2448 pixels. On the outside, it gets a 5.5-inch Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X cover display with a resolution of 1248 x 1972 pixels, offering a more practical experience for everyday tasks when the phone is folded.
Both displays support an adaptive 120Hz refresh rate for smoother scrolling and animations. They also come with Samsung’s Vision Booster technology and can reach up to 3,000 nits of peak brightness, helping improve visibility in brighter environments.
Camera System
For optics, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 features a dual-camera setup at the rear, consisting of a 50MP primary sensor and a 50MP ultra-wide camera. The main sensor comes with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) for steadier shots and videos, while also supporting 8K video recording at 30fps. Instead of adding more camera hardware, Samsung continues to focus on software processing and Galaxy AI features to enhance the overall photography experience.
For selfies and video calls, the Fold 8 comes with two 10MP front-facing cameras, with one placed on the cover display and another on the inner folding screen. This provides a more consistent selfie experience across both displays compared to the previous under-display camera approach.
Performance and Software
Under the hood, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy chipset, a custom-tuned version of the flagship processor. It is built to handle demanding tasks like heavy multitasking, gaming, and on-device AI features with ease. The phone comes with 12GB RAM on the 256GB and 512GB storage variants, while the top-end 1TB model gets 16GB RAM.
On the software side, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 runs on One UI 9 based on Android 17 out of the box. Samsung promises seven years of major OS upgrades and security updates, making it a suitable option for long-term use. It also brings deeper Galaxy AI integration along with a more refined multitasking experience, including improved split-screen layouts, smoother app continuity, and better optimization for the foldable form factor.
Battery and Connectivity
Despite its slimmer design, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 comes with a larger 4,800mAh battery compared to the previous generation. It supports 45W wired charging, along with 20W wireless charging and 4.5W reverse wireless charging, allowing users to top up the phone and compatible accessories conveniently.
For connectivity, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 supports 5G, along with modern wireless standards like Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0, as expected from a flagship foldable. It also includes NFC and other connectivity options for everyday use.
