Acer just launched a new 2-in-1 laptop in Nepal powered by the Intel Core 5 120U. It sticks to the basics and targets students, but the flexible design comes with a few compromises. Let’s dive in.

The Aspire Spin 14 is the new 360-degree convertible laptop that can also be used as a tablet. Like all modern 2-in-1 laptops, this one always sits in tent mode for presentations. It’s also quite thin and very lightweight at just 1.50 kg. The laptop comes in only one color and that is Steel Grey. Other than that, you also get a typical backlit keyboard, a fingerprint reader, and a 1080p webcam.

Now coming to display, it features a 14-inch WUXGA (1920 x 1200) IPS touchscreen with a 16:10 aspect ratio and 60Hz refresh rate. The touchscreen is quite responsive, although i would only suggest if you are looking particularly for cases where touch screens are often required, otherwise it often results in disappointment. Anyway, the brightness, however, is quite poor. The 300 nits and 45% NTSC colour coverage is generally what you get at this price range, but because of this average panel, they become unsuitable for any task that has to push beyond every task, like multitasking or browsing socials. The 60Hz refresh rate is standard for this category.

Performance and Memory

The Intel Core 5 120U is the processor available in this machine. It’s a Raptor Lake Refresh U-series chip with 10 cores, 12 threads, and a 5.0 GHz max boost. The Core 5 120U is a well-tested processor that is well capable for office work. It’s a GPU, which comes as integrated, can also handle basic display output and light tasks, although it is behind both the Intel Iris Xe found in higher-end chips and the AMD Radeon 780M found in competing laptops.

It also ships with 8GB of LPDDR5 at 4800 MT/s in a single channel. Unfortunately, single-channel memory noticeably constrains the integrated GPU's performance, and 8GB in 2025 is not sufficient for a laptop in this price range. For storage, you get a 512GB PCIe Gen4 NVMe SSD.

Battery and Connectivity

The laptop comes with a 50 Wh battery and a 65W adapter, which delivers around 6 to 8 hours of mixed use. The standout port on this machine is the Thunderbolt 4 USB-C port, which is rare at this price point in Nepal and gives you full 40 Gbps bandwidth, external display support, and Power Delivery in a single port. Alongside it you get two USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports, HDMI 2.1, and a 3.5mm jack.

Should you buy Acer Aspire Spin 14 2024 in Nepal?

It’s a good pick if you want a flexible 2-in-1 for study and everyday use, but at this price, the 8GB RAM and modest performance make it harder to recommend unless you really need the convertible design.
