Looks like Acer is big on expanding its gaming laptop portfolio to smaller form factors. The Taiwanese company recently unveiled a 14” Nitro laptop equipped with the latest Ryzen 8040 processors and now we have a similar offering in the Predator space. The Acer Predator Helios Neo 14 features the latest Core Ultra processors from Intel with up to an RTX 4070 GPU. Acer Predator Helios Neo 14 Overview

Display and Design

For starters, this 14” form factor is entirely new for the Predator Helios lineup. We have seen quite a few offerings from the competition like the Zephyrus G14 from Asus and the Blade 14 from Razer but this is Acer’s latest foray. The company does offer its Triton gaming laptops in compact form factors but the ‘Nitro 14’ and the ‘Helios Neo 14’ are the latest additions to the space.

Since the Helios Neo is the pricer offering of the two, it offers better display configurations than the Nitro 14. You can get yourself a WQXGA (3072×1920) at 165Hz, a WQHD+ (2560×1600) at 120Hz, or WUXGA (1920×1200) at 120Hz. As you might have guessed, the laptop comes with a taller 16:10 screen with full sRGB colors and G-Sync compatibility.

Performance and Memory

The performance is where the Nitro and the Predator diverge. While the Helios Neo 14 we are talking about here houses Intel Meteor Lake processors, the Nitro 14 is going to be powered by AMD’s Ryzen 8040 Hawk Point APUs.

You can configure the Predator Helios Neo (PHN14-51) with up to a Core Ultra 9 185H CPU paired with up to an RTX 4070. Cooling is handled by dual fans, liquid metal on the chips, and exhausts.

As for the memory, you get up to 32GB of LPDDR5x RAM alongside up to 1TB of Gen 4 SSD storage. Unsurprisingly, RAM is not upgradable and you don’t get extra M.2 slots either.

Connectivity and Extras

Talking of connectivity, you get a fast Intel Killer WiFi 6E card alongside Thunderbolt 4, and a microSD card reader. There’s dedicated Co-pilot and NitroSense keys on the 4-zone RGB keyboard and you also get one month of GamePass Ultimate. The machine weighs about 1.9 kilos in total and will ship with a 1080p webcam and triple microphone setup.
