      Flipkart's approach to E-commerce Scam

Online Shopping not only saves time but also, for those who do not interact with many people, offers an easy escape. Every easy escape comes with threats, scams, and fraud. But looks like Flipkart has just found a way out. In this article, I will discuss the ongoing online scam and Flipkart's approach to addressing it.

      Flipkart's approach to E-commerce Scam

      Ongoing Scam of E-commerce

For an e-commerce platform, the return rate will significantly impact the business's growth. It will not matter whether you are a small startup owner or an established business owner. The impact on your business remains the same and is clearly visible. As most people buy goods online these days, there is always the involvement of a third person as the delivery agent. Although the return of defective goods is legitimate, it is the seller's responsibility to provide a proper replacement. But these days, the main issue is that the returned products are used goods, not the same item you sell, and sometimes the goods are missing.

      Ongoing Scam of E-commerce

There is no way to verify whether the goods you are receiving are genuine, and no third-party involvement. Scammers are using this as a loophole for fraud. We can see this not only on the seller's side but also on the buyer's, as it is very difficult to find genuine buyers willing to send the same goods you have selected. It is causing trust issues between buyers and sellers. Alongside, it has also made scamming an easy way to make money for some people.

      Filpkart's approach

We all know that Flipkart is a huge e-commerce site with thousands of orders placed daily, which they need to deliver on time. Although they follow all protocols before delivering goods, the return rate continues to increase.

To address this, Flipkart is using four different methods to reduce the return rate. Firstly, they implemented two-step verification for every returned good. If you are a seller, you will share the start code to begin the process and to inspect the returned goods. If everything is checked in, then you will share the end code. That return does not end until you sign off.

Similarly, if you feel the return is suspicious, you can request open box delivery. Flipkart plans to offer this option to its consumers from 1st May 2026. Here, you will act as a delivery agent to open the box in front of you, photograph each item, and upload the photos immediately as proof before you accept the return.

      Filpkart's approach Delivery Agent

Third, you will get real-time updates on your dashboard as the return is being delivered. The ongoing process will not be a summary of what happened during delivery. But the delivery agent will show you the return items one by one. Lastly, you can track the expected delivery date of return goods in advance. So that you have an idea of what to restock, cash flow, and other tasks accordingly on the actual timeline.

Flipkart's approach to E-commerce Scam: Conclusion

If Flipkart succeeds with this approach to reduce the return rate of goods, it will be a huge leap for the e-commerce industry. It will not only help the seller grow its business but also build trust with consumers. The loophole scammers have been using for years will be eliminated. As such, we can witness the safest environment for online shopping without the threat of scams.
