Honor Play 80 Pro announced with 7,000mAh battery and 50MP camera

Honor launches its new Play 80 Pro in China, targeting the mid-range smartphone category. You get a massive 7,000 mAh battery and a Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 SoC in the Honor Play 80 Pro. Design and Display

Starting with the design, we get a plastic unibody measuring around 166.89 x 76.8 x 8.24 mm and weighing 207 grams. On the back of the phone, you get a square camera module with a camera and an LED flash, and a small punch-hole at the front. You can choose between blue, white, and black finishes. It also has an IP65 rating for dust and splash resistance. 

In terms of display, the Honor Play 80 Pro comes with a 6.8-inch LCD panel with only HD+ resolution, which is something you can expect in a budget phone, not in the mid-range category. Similarly, you get 850 nits peak brightness, which is enough for both indoor and outdoor reading. However, you might not experience a smoother experience with a 60Hz refresh rate while scrolling. 

Performance and Software

Under the hood, you get a Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 SoC in the Honor Play 80 Pro, which works well for day-to-day use. This SOC in a mid-range phone is not up to the mark; you can only play light games and scroll social media. Likewise, this phone comes with 6/8/12 GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage.  

On the software side, Honor Play 80 Pro runs on the MagicOS 9 based on Android 15. Honors does not disclose the details of the security patches and OS updates. Yet, seeing the global trend, we can expect up to 2 major OS updates and 2 to 3 years of security patches.

In terms of optics, you get a 50MP rear camera with 8x digital zoom and autofocus. On the camera island, you can see a four-camera setup. But, among them, only one is functional; the others are here to create an illusion. Up front, a 5MP sensor is used for selfies and video calls.
