Huawei Mobile WiFi X is a foldable portable 5G hotspot with an X-shaped antenna design, touchscreen controls, and high-speed connectivity aimed at mobile creators and streamers

Huawei just launched a portable 5G hotspot, and it is unlike anything else on the market right now. The Mobile WiFi X was announced at Huawei's HarmonyOS Smart Home Technology Communication Conference just recently, and it's a very interesting ‘router’ to say the least. Let's get into this article, where I will discuss everything about the latest Huawei Mobile WiFi X, including its price and availability.
Huawei Mobile WiFi X Overview
Design

The most immediately distinctive thing about the WiFi X is how it looks when you open it. Folded, it sits flat like a large power bank, which is compact enough for a bag or pocket. Unfold it, and the four panels splay out into an X shape, which props itself up on flat surfaces without any additional stand.
And apparently, there's more than the aesthetics of this router. The spread-out form positions the 16 built-in cellular antennas more effectively, and Huawei says this results in a 13% increase in signal strength compared to the folded position. It is the idea is that unfolding it gives you a better signal than keeping it flat in your pocket.
On the front, it features a built-in touchscreen that shows signal strength, battery level, connected devices, carrier info, and time at a glance. You can tap it to adjust settings without pulling out your phone. There's also a SIM card slot and two USB-C ports.
Performance and Connectivity

The WiFi X is the world's first 4T4R (four-transmitter, four-receiver) device in this category, paired with triple-carrier aggregation. In ideal conditions, it reaches peak download speeds of 5.3Gbps and peak upload speeds of 1Gbps.
To put the upload figure in perspective: most portable hotspots and even flagship phones are heavily download-focused. 1Gbps upload is what makes 4K live streaming and large file transfers viable from this device, not just theoretically possible. Huawei claims the WiFi X delivers 100% smoother live streaming in weak or far-signal areas compared to flagship phones, and 50% smoother in congested network environments like packed events or busy city centres. The 16 cellular antennas provide 360-degree coverage, and the device also supports SUL dual-link parallel operation and smart cell selection.

Battery and Cooling

It comes with a 12,000mAh battery, which Huawei rates at up to 24 hours of internet browsing or 20 hours of continuous live streaming. Similarly, you also get the 66W fast charging, through which, 10 minutes of charging delivers around 3 hours of streaming. Running a 4T4R cellular radio at high throughput generates heat, and Huawei has addressed this with a dual-layer graphene cooling system and high-conductivity thermal film.
Who Is This For?
The WiFi X is not a home router replacement. It doesn't plug into a wall, it doesn't replace your fiber connection, and it's not what you'd set up in a living room. It's for people who need pro-level mobile connectivity. Which means, this can be a good purchase, particularly for live streamers and content creators.
