Our favorite midrange phone of 2025—the OnePlus Nord 5—sees a price hike in Nepal

OnePlus officially launched the Nord 5 in Nepal almost a year ago. It brought flagship-level performance to the mid-range segment, a massive battery, a nice display—and it was easily one of our favorite midrange phones of last year. But thanks to the ongoing memory shortage (and the resulting sky-high RAM/storage prices), OnePlus Nepal has bumped up the prices of both configurations of Nord 5.

OnePlus Nord 5 Overview

Performance and Gaming

The Nord 5 runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chipset, which honestly represents a major step up for the Nord series. The processor delivers an AnTuTu score of 1,590,700 and supports hardware-accelerated ray tracing. In addition, the device features the Adreno 735 GPU, which OnePlus claims delivers a 90% performanceimprovement over the Nord 3.

For gaming, the phone supports 144 FPS gaming for up to 5 consecutive hours. According to OnePlus, it includes support for ray tracing in games like BGMI, Rainbow Six Mobile, and Genshin Impact. The cooling system uses a 7,300mm² vapor chamber - actually the largest in its category - keeping temperatures up to 4.3°C cooler than competitors during gaming sessions.

Display and Design

The Nord 5 features a 6.83-inch Swift AMOLED display with 1.5K resolution (2800 x 1272). The screen supports up to a 144Hz refresh rate, which is the highest OnePlus has offered on any device. Additionally, the display reaches 1800 nits peak brightness and supports 100% DCI-P3 color gamut.

The display also includes Aqua Touch 2.0 for wet finger support and 3840Hz PWM dimming for eye care. Additionally, Corning Gorilla Glass 7i offers protection and is exclusively co-developed with OnePlus.

The phone measures 163.4 x 77 x 8.1mm and weighs 211g. It features IP65 water resistance and comes in three colors: Marble Sands, Dry Ice, and Phantom Grey. Each color has its own design inspiration and finish. 

Camera System

OnePlus equipped the Nord 5 with a flagship-level camera setup. The main camera uses a 50MP Sony LYT-700 sensor - the same one found in the OnePlus 13 series. It features tri-axis OIS and captures 4K video at 60fps. The ultra-wide camera offers 8MP resolution with a 116-degree field of view.

For selfies, the phone includes a 50MP Samsung ISOCELL JN5 front camera with mechanical autofocus. This is actually rare for front cameras and shows OnePlus's focus on selfie quality. The front camera also supports 4K video recording at 60fps.

Battery and Charging

The device packs a massive 6,800mAh battery - one of the largest in its segment. It supports 80W SUPERVOOC charging, which can charge from 1% to 100% in 54 minutes. The battery also includes a health engine that maintains 80% capacity after 4 years of use.

For gaming, the phone supports bypass charging, which draws power directly from the charger rather than the battery. This helps keep temperatures down during extended gaming sessions.

AI Features

OnePlus has integrated several AI capabilities into the Nord 5. The AI Plus Mind feature serves as a central knowledge hub, accessible via the Plus Key or a three-finger swipe. Users can save screen content and search through it using natural language queries.

The phone also includes an AI Call Assistant for real-time translation and summarization, though it is currently India-exclusive. Additionally, AI VoiceScribe integrates with apps such as WhatsApp, Instagram, and Zoom to record and translate in 20+ languages.

For photography, AI features include Detail Boost, Unblur, Reflection Eraser, and object removal tools. These are integrated into the camera app and operate in real time.

Connectivity and 5G

The Nord 5 supports 5G-Advanced through an exclusive partnership with Reliance Jio. The phone can connect to 3 network cells simultaneously and achieve download speeds exceeding 1Gbps. It also supports Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.4, and NFC.
