Pebble Index 01 smart ring launches with voice reminders

Pebble has launched its first smart ring, the Pebble Index 01. According to the company, it is designed as an "external memory for your brain." The ring is worn on the index finger and features a physical button and a built-in microphone to capture thoughts, reminders, and quick notes. Pebble Index 01 Overview

Design

The Pebble Index 01 is roughly the size of a wedding band and sits on your index finger. It includes a physical button and a built-in microphone. The microphone here only activates when you press the button, hence it isn't always listening to you. You press the button, speak a thought or reminder, and the ring sends the audio to your connected phone. The audio is converted to text locally, and the action is completed.

The ring works with both Android and iOS and can send captured content to notes apps, calendars, reminder systems, and other supported phone functions. According to Pebble CEO, use cases of this device can include setting timers, creating reminders for phone calls at specific times, adding calendar events, saving book recommendations and so on.

Privacy and Connectivity

The Index 01 is also private by design. As i said, there's no recording without a button press, no internet connection required, and no subscription. Text conversion happens locally on your phone, so your voice data isn't sent to cloud servers.

Battery 

The Index 01 uses non-rechargeable silver-oxide hearing aid batteries, which Pebble claims give the ring "near-unlimited battery life." But the problem is that, when the battery dies, you can't recharge it. Pebble encourages users to send the ring back to the company when the battery runs out, but that also makes the Index 01 effectively disposable. There's no option to replace the battery yourself, which means each ring becomes e-waste after the battery is depleted.

Pebble Index 01 Price in Nepal and Availability

The Pebble Index 01 is available for pre-order at USD 75 and ships in March. There's no word yet on international availability or when it might arrive in markets like Nepal.
