On September 12, Apple launched four new iPhones and two Apple Watches. Among them, the standard iPhone 15 stands out with only minor design and build upgrades, but it offers a performance boost compared to the vanilla iPhone 14. Without further ado, let’s get right into the specifications of the all-new iPhone 15.
iPhone 15 Overview
Design and Display
The iPhone 15 features an aerospace-grade aluminum frame with a rear panel polished from nanocrystalline particles for a textured matte finish. The Super Retina XDR screen it comes with, bears an FHD+ resolution (2556 x 1179 pixels), HDR10, Dolby Vision, 2,000 nits of peak brightness, and Ceramic Shield glass protection. Sadly, the refresh rate has stayed the same at 60Hz.
Likewise, you get an IP68 rating for protection against dust and water drips. Apple ships this guy in five color options: Black, Blue, Green, Yellow, and Pink. What’s new this time in iPhone 15 is the arrival of Dynamic Island.
Performance
Running the show on the core is Apple’s last year chipset, the A16 Bionic. This 4nm-fabbed chip features a hexa-core architecture with two Everest cores at 3.46GHz and four Sawtooth cores at 2.0GHz clock speeds. The Apple 5-core GPU is responsible for handling gaming and graphics-related workloads.
In terms of memory, it offers 6GB of RAM and comes in three storage options: 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB, though storage is not user-upgradeable. The all-new iPhone 15 boots on iOS 17.
Battery
iPhone 15 comes with a non-removable Li-Ion battery with a capacity of 3300 mAh, which supports fast charging at 20W, as well as 15W MagSafe and 7.5W Qi magnetic wireless charging. This iPhone variant offers up to 20 hours of video playback on a single charge, but it’s important to note that it doesn’t include a charger in the box.
Camera
There is again the dual camera setup in iPhone 15, with the primary shooter getting a resolution bump, with a 48MP sensor. This quad-pixel camera brings 100% Focus Pixels for swift autofocus. Next is a 12MP ultrawide camera that offers a wide 120° field of view.
Moving to the front, you get a 12MP TrueDepth camera engraved on the Dynamic Island which also doubles as a 3D face scanner for biometrics security.
Ports and Features
With the EU mandating a USB-C port in different consumer electronic goods in its region, Apple has finally shifted to USB Type C on the entire iPhone 15 Series. Unfortunately, the vanilla model equips a slower USB 2.0 port.
The phone still has functions like emergency SOS, accident detection, and satellite connectivity. This time, Apple has also released “Roadside Assistance,” which uses a satellite link to provide assistance for cars in remote locations without cellular service.
