Qualcomm has unveiled its latest mid-range chipset, the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 as the newest member of its 7 series Mobile Platforms. This fresh release follows the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3, which launched in 2024. Interestingly, the new chip keeps the same 1+3+4 CPU core layout as the previous version. In this article, we will take a closer look at Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 including its key features and launch timeline.

Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 Specifications

CPU and GPU

Starting off with the CPU, the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 includes one 2.8 GHz ARM Cortex-A720 prime core, three A720 performance cores clocked at up to 2.4 GHz, and four Cortex-A520 efficiency cores running at up to 1.84 GHz. This setup should feel snappy in real-world use, especially with everyday multitasking. Qualcomm claims a 27% jump in CPU performance over the Gen 3, which is a big deal for a mid-range chip.

The chipset features an Adreno GPU that delivers 30% faster graphics rendering compared to the previous generation. Plus, Snapdragon Elite Gaming features are included for better gameplay experiences.

Camera and AI

The Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 uses a 12-bit Triple ISP that supports up to 200MP photo capture, just like the Gen 3. What’s really exciting is the real-time 4K60 Video Super Resolution, which keeps your videos crisp even when you zoom in. Also, for the first time in the 7 series, it brings in AI-powered autofocus, auto white balance, and auto exposure. It even adds hardware stabilization, which is great news for video creators.

On the AI side, it supports on-device Gen AI assistants and even runs popular large language models (LLMs) directly on the phone. The addition of Stable Diffusion image generation in this segment feels like a smart move. The chip also promises a 65% increase in AI performance, which makes on-device tasks way faster and more efficient.

Connectivity and Rest

In the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 series, for the first time the Qualcomm’s Expanded Personal Area Network (XPAN) comes. It gives whole-building seamless coverage between your device and earbuds, even if you’re far from your phone. Music lovers will appreciate the Snapdragon Sound support for lossless streaming, along with the Qualcomm Aqstic Hi-Fi DAC, which delivers high-quality sound without distortion.

Furthermore, the chipset supports Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0, keeping it future-ready for fast wireless speeds and stable connections.

Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 Availability

Qualcomm confirmed that HONOR and vivo will be the first brands to use this chip, with their upcoming devices launching this month. Reports suggest that the HONOR 400 and vivo S30 will feature the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 in China. Additionally, there are rumors that the OnePlus Nord CE5 might also include this new chipset.
