Amazon Unveils New Fire TV Stick 4K with Redesigned Fire TV Remote!

Amazon is giving its Fire TV Stick 4K series a reset. The company has replaced the existing Fire TV Stick 4K Select and Fire TV Stick 4K Plus with a new Fire TV Stick 4K, while keeping the higher-end Fire TV Stick 4K Max as the premium option in the series.

The new model also brings a few notable changes of its own, including Amazon’s Vega OS, a redesigned Fire TV Remote, and support for 4K streaming at up to 60fps.

Here’s a closer look at the new Fire TV Stick 4K, including its design, performance, software, remote, price, and availability.

Fire TV Stick 4K Overview

Design and Display

The Fire TV Stick 4K  keeps the familiar compact stick-style design, with Amazon making it slimmer than the previous models. It plugs directly into the TV’s HDMI port and can sit behind the display without taking up much space.

The stick supports 4K resolution at up to 60fps, along with HDR10, HDR10+, and HLG. This allows compatible TVs to display higher-resolution content with support for different HDR formats.

Another change is the power setup. The new stick is designed to draw power directly from a compatible TV’s USB port, which can eliminate the need for a separate wall adapter. Amazon includes the required USB cable for this setup.

New Fire TV Remote

Amazon has also introduced a redesigned Fire TV Remote, which comes bundled with the new Fire TV Stick 4K. It is also available separately and works with Fire TV streaming devices dating back to 2019, as well as Amazon Ember TVs.

The remote gets a flat top and a rounded, weighted bottom for a more comfortable grip. Amazon has also given the Home button a distinct metal surface, making it easier to locate by touch without looking at the remote.

Another notable addition is the Star button, which can be assigned to a favorite app for quicker access. Users can also set it to trigger certain features, such as closed captioning or Screen Magnifier, instead of launching an app.The remote retains the familiar navigation controls and Alexa button for voice commands.

Performance and Software

The Fire TV Stick 4K  is powered by a new quad-core processor clocked at 1.7GHz, paired with 8GB of storage. Amazon says the updated hardware helps the stick boot faster, launch apps up to 35% quicker, and start content up to 20% faster than previous Fire TV Stick 4K models.

On the software side, Amazon has moved away from its Android-based Fire OS and introduced its Linux-based Vega OS. The new platform still provides access to popular streaming services and supports Alexa for voice searches and smart-home controls.

However, the move to Vega OS also comes with a notable change for existing Fire TV users. The new system does not support Android APK sideloading, which means users cannot install Android apps manually in the same way they could on older Fire TV Stick models.

For wireless connectivity, the Fire TV Stick 4K supports Wi-Fi 6, along with Bluetooth 5.3 and Bluetooth Low Energy for connecting compatible accessories.
