Capable of projecting a massive 171" virtual screen at a fast 240Hz refresh rate, the ROG Xreal R1 might just be the perfect upgrade for your gaming setup.

Asus has finally launched its “ROG Xreal R1" AR gaming glasses, which it first teased at CES 2026. As the name suggests, Asus collaborated with the popular AR company “Xreal” for these smart glasses. The ROG Xreal R1 has a Micro OLED panel that can project up to a massive 171-inch virtual display, a fast 240Hz refresh rate, an ultra-fast 0.01 ms response time, versatile viewing modes, broad connectivity, and more. So, in this article, I will discuss everything you need to know about the Asus ROG Xreal R1, including its specs, features, availability, and expected price in Nepal.
Asus ROG Xreal R1 Overview
What is ROG Xreal R1?
The ROG Xreal R1 is a pair of AR (Augmented Reality) smart glasses that work as a wearable monitor, providing a supersized, low-latency gaming experience without the need for a bulky monitor setup. Unlike a full VR (Virtual Reality) headset, these AR glasses are specifically designed for high-performance gaming and media consumption.
Instead of looking at a physical screen, these glasses project a large virtual display directly in front of your eyes, offering an immersive gaming experience in a compact and portable form factor.
Design and comfort
Starting with the design, the R1 features a lightweight sunglasses-like design, making it much more portable compared to traditional VR headsets. It weighs just 91 grams, making it comfortable enough for extended gaming sessions.

The glasses also come with flexible arms and adjustable nose pads to ensure a secure, customized fit for different users. Moreover, Asus has included smart dimming lenses, known as “electrochromic lenses,” that can change their tint manually or automatically based on the environment, improving visibility and the overall immersive experience.
Display and performance
As for the display, the ROG Xreal R1 has a 0.55" Micro OLED display on each eye with an FHD (1920 x 1080 pixels) resolution and 106% sRGB color gamut. It's capable of projecting a large 171" floating screen (at 4 meters distance) in front of the eyes, offering a theater-like view.
Additionally, it reaches up to 700 nits of brightness for better visibility in different lighting conditions, while offering a 57° field of view for a more immersive and large-screen experience.

Other than this, the ROG Xreal R1 supports a smooth 240Hz refresh rate (with frame-rate boost enabled) and 0.01 ms response time, which reduces motion blurriness and makes fast-paced gaming feel more responsive. This makes the glasses especially good for action games, racing titles, and competitive shooters where smooth visuals are important.
Connectivity and compatibility
Moving on to connectivity, the ROG Xreal R1 mainly uses a USB-C connection, allowing it to pair directly with compatible smartphones, tablets, laptops, and handheld gaming devices like ROG Ally, providing flexibility to use modern portable devices.

For gaming consoles and desktop setups, Asus also offers the “ROG Control Dock”, which adds HDMI 2.0, DisplayPort 1.4, and even HDR tone mapping support. This allows the glasses to connect with devices like the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and gaming PCs more easily.

Audio and other features
For audio, the ROG Xreal R1 comes with Bose-tuned speakers and a noise-cancelling dual-microphone setup for voice communication during gaming or phone calls.

Likewise, these glasses support 3DoF spatial tracking along with “Anchor Mode” and “Follow Mode”. These modes allow the virtual screen to either stay fixed in one place, like a floating TV screen, or move along with your movement.
Additionally, the glasses also support an Instant 3D feature that can turn compatible 2D content into a more immersive 3D-like view.
It also has a customizable “Aura RGB” lighting onboard, but one important thing you need to know about these glasses is that they come in two IPD (Interpupillary Distance) sizes. Aka the distance (in millimeters) between the center of your pupils. There's “R1-N” with IPD 57 - 66mm and “R1-B” with IPD 66-75mm. Asus says these two configurations should cover 95% of consumers, but in case you're among the 5% of the crowd, the ROG Xreal R1 isn't gonna work well with your eyes.
