CMF Speaker S and Speaker M Overview
Design and Durability
Starting with the design, both CMF Speaker S and Speaker M feature a boxy design that looks more like “milk cartons”, with sloping top edges, colorful front panels, and a prominent control knob. The look is quite different from the usual cylindrical or pill-shaped Bluetooth speakers, giving the pair a distinctive appearance. You can choose from four colors: White, Dark Grey, Orange, and Turquoise.

CMF has also made the design customizable. The front panel and control knob are removable, and the company supports custom 3D-printed replacements, so you can change their appearance to your liking.
There are a few differences between the two models, though. The smaller CMF Speaker S measures 130.5 x 85 x 44mm and weighs 334 grams. It has a cutout for attaching a strap or carabiner, making it easier to carry around. The larger Speaker M measures 220 x 85 x 54mm and weighs 602 grams. Instead of the smaller model's attachment point, it features a built-in handle for carrying.

Both speakers have physical controls, including a knob for adjusting volume and managing playback, alongside dedicated buttons for power, Bluetooth, and Auracast. This means you can handle basic music controls without reaching for your phone.
As for durability, both CMF Speaker S and Speaker M carry an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. That should make them suitable for outdoor use and help protect them from dust and water exposure.
Audio and Connectivity
The biggest difference between the two speakers is their audio hardware. The CMF Speaker S uses a 45mm full-range driver with two passive radiators, delivering 10W RMS output across a frequency range of 70Hz to 20kHz. The larger CMF Speaker M takes a different approach, pairing a 25W, 70mm woofer with a 10W, 16mm tweeter for a combined 35W RMS output. Its frequency range also extends lower, starting at 60Hz, which should help it reproduce deeper bass.

Likewise, both speakers use adaptive audio tuning to adjust their sound in real time. You also get an Ultra Bass mode for extra low-end emphasis and a Wide Soundstage mode for a more spacious listening experience. Through the Nothing X app, you can choose from four EQ presets: Balanced, More Bass, More Treble, and Voice, or fine-tune the sound using the custom EQ option.
For connectivity, both CMF Speaker S and Speaker M support Bluetooth 6.0 and can connect to two devices simultaneously, letting you switch between sources such as a phone and a laptop. They also support NFC tap-to-pair, Google Fast Pair, and Microsoft Swift Pair for easier pairing with compatible devices.

Another useful addition is USB-C audio playback. You can connect either speaker directly to a compatible phone, computer, or other audio source using a USB-C cable, with latency below 60ms according to CMF. This can be useful when watching videos or playing games on a computer.
Finally, both speakers support Stereo Mode and Party Mode. Stereo Mode lets you pair two identical units, meaning two Speaker S units or two Speaker M units, to separate audio into left and right channels. You cannot pair the S and M together for stereo playback. Party Mode, meanwhile, uses Auracast to connect multiple compatible speakers for wider audio coverage.

Battery and Charging
Coming to the battery, both CMF Speaker S and Speaker M are rated for up to 18 hours of playback, although they have different battery capacities. The Speaker S packs a 2,600mAh battery, while the larger Speaker M has a 4,900mAh cell.

Both charge via USB-C. According to CMF, a 10-minute charge provides up to one hour of playback, while a full charge takes around 2.5 hours for the Speaker S and three hours for the Speaker M. The advertised 18-hour battery life is based on AAC playback at 50% volume with Ultra Bass enabled and other features set to their default settings. So the actual playback time will vary depending on how you use the speakers.
