Google is here to challenge the smartwatch industry with its screenless Fitbit Air!

In the past, we have seen that wearables were designed like mini-phones with bulkier screens. But with the announcement of the Fitbit Air, Google moves toward a more invisible, AI-integrated approach to healthy living that goes beyond the traditional smartwatch concept. With this band, Google focuses on a high-fidelity sensor for health tracking, paired with a simple yet stylish design. In this article, I will discuss the Fitbit Air in detail, including its expected price in Nepal, specifications, and availability.

Google Fitbit Air Overview

Comfortable design with durable build

For this new Fitbit Air, Google has chosen a "screenless pebble" design that eliminates digital distractions and focuses solely on the health-tracking mechanism. Despite its small size, this band houses an advanced sensor architecture for 24/7 heart rate monitoring, sleep tracking, and other health-monitoring tasks.

Talking about the band style, Google said that you can change the look of a wearable by just popping out the pebble and swapping in one of the variety of options it offers to match your everyday mood. They are giving “Performance Loop”, "Active Loop", and “Elevated Loop” options to choose from.

Performance Loop Band is made from recycled material. This band features a breathable, micro-adjustable fit and comes in the Fitbit Air box. while the Active band has a sweatproof, waterproof silicone strap for intense training and workout sessions. Moreover, the Elevated Modern band can convert the boring band into a bracelet style, giving you a classic look.  

Other than this, Google is bringing the special-edition performance Loop band in Rye brown and game day orange finishes, in collaboration with Stephen Curry. This edition features a special water-resistant coating and a raised interior print inspired by athletic racing stripes. This design is not only for the look, but it also provides airflow during high-intensity movement. 

Activity Tracking

Moving on, the Fitbit Air comes with smart sensors that automatically detect common activities like walking, running, and other specific movements. After a certain period, this band automatically sends the summary to the Google Health app, where you can review your activity. 

If you are looking for a more guided experience, you can check out the Google Health Coach. Another interesting feature is that you can use your phone camera to log workout data by simply taking a picture of the gym's whiteboard or treadmill screen summary. These photos are analyzed in Google Health Coach to create your precise fitness profile.
