Apple’s first foldable "iPhone Duo" is coming soon to Nepal with a 7.6-inch display and A20 Pro chip!

Apple has finally entered the foldable smartphone market with the iPhone Duo, bringing a completely new form factor to the iPhone lineup alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. Instead of simply making a smaller foldable, Apple has gone with a book-style design that opens up into a much larger display, aiming to give users a phone-and-tablet-like experience in one device. Here, this foldable comes with a 5.4-inch outer display and a 7.6-inch inner screen, along with Apple’s latest A20 Pro chip, dual 48MP cameras, and more, focusing heavily on making the foldable experience feel natural. In this article, I will discuss this foldable in detail, including the expected iPhone Duo price in Nepal, specifications, and availability. 

iPhone Duo Overview

Design and Build

Starting off with the design, the iPhone Duo takes a book-style folding approach, giving it a look like a regular smartphone when closed and opening horizontally to reveal the larger inner display. Apple has used a titanium frame around the device, which should give it a premium feel while also helping with strength. 

Moving on, the phone weighs around 254 grams and measures 11.3mm thick when folded. So, while Apple is marketing it as its thinnest iPhone when opened, you still have to deal with a fairly thick and heavy device when carrying it around. Early hands-on impressions from the people who get to test Duo also suggest that its wider body can make one-handed typing and general use a little awkward, especially for people with smaller hands.

Interestingly, Apple seems to have put considerable effort into the folding mechanism itself. Though the hinge feels smooth, the inner display still has a crease that is reportedly much harder to notice than on many existing foldables. For durability, the Duo also carries an IP68 rating, which should give enough protection in everyday use. 

Display

Up front, the iPhone Duo gives you two very different screen experiences featuring an LTPO Super Retina XDR OLED panel. On the outside, there is a compact 5.4-inch display that you can use for regular phone tasks. But after opening the phone, you get a much larger 7.6-inch internal display with a wider 1.4:1 aspect ratio. This larger screen makes more sense for more space for reading, browsing, editing documents, and running two apps side by side. 

One of the most interesting parts of the inner display is that it uses the nano-texture finish to reduce reflections—rather than using a completely glossy surface just like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8. So, while using it in bright light and near windows, you might comfortably notice the difference. More importantly, the matte surface also helps in hiding the folding crease on the Duo, which is also worth pointing out when compared with other foldables available in the market. While you can still feel it, it should be less distracting during everyday use, especially when watching videos or reading on the larger screen. 

And honestly, this seems to be one of the areas where Apple has done its homework. Early hands-on reports describe the crease as barely visible during normal use, although you can still feel it when running your finger across the screen. The screen also doesn't simply switch from one display to another when you open the phone. Instead, the interface gradually transitions between the two screens, which makes the whole folding experience feel more intentional.

Besides that, the 120Hz refresh rate should make scrolling through social media, browsing, and switching between apps feel smooth. The both the screen of the Duo have 1600 nits high brightness mode that should make outdoor visibility pretty bright even under sunlight. And this foldable is also coming with Apple Pencil support, giving you more room for creative work such as sketching, quick note-taking, and more. 

Performance and Software

Under the hood, the iPhone Duo uses the same Apple A20 Pro chipset that is used in iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, so performance should not really be a concern here. Apple also uses a custom vapor chamber to help manage heat, which should be useful when the phone is handling demanding tasks such as gaming, multitasking, or extended video playback.

Here, Apple has made several changes to the interface specifically for the Duo. When opened, the phone can make better use of the extra screen space by allowing apps to run side by side. There are also different ways to position the phone, including laptop and tent modes, which can be useful for watching content or using the phone without holding it.

Memory-wise, it comes with 12GB of RAM and up to 2TB of internal storage. For users who plan to take advantage of the Duo's larger screen for productivity and media, the higher storage variants should be particularly useful.

On the software side, the iPhone Duo runs on iOS 27, which has been optimized to make better use of its foldable design. When you open the phone, the interface takes advantage of the larger inner display, giving you more room for multitasking, browsing, and running apps side by side. You also get the latest iOS features and Apple Intelligence, while the software transition between the outer and inner screens is designed to feel smooth rather than like switching between two separate devices.

Camera 

For optics, the iPhone Duo takes a slightly different approach from Apple's Pro models. At the back, it gets a dual-camera setup with two 48MP sensors, including a main camera and a telephoto camera with 2x optical zoom. This setup should be more than enough for everyday photography. However, this is also one of the areas Apple has clearly made compromises to fit the cameras into a foldable body.

That means the kind of photography you get from the iPhone 18 Pro series is no longer available in the Duo, including the longer zoom range. So, if you regularly take photos of distant subjects, you should consider the Pro models instead of this foldable.

At the same time, the foldable design brings some interesting camera features that you simply don't get on a regular iPhone. Since the phone has a display on both sides, you can use the outer screen as a preview when taking photos. This means you can frame a photo using the main cameras while the person in front of the phone can also see themselves on the outer display.

For selfies and video calls, the iPhone Duo also features a 12MP under-display center stage camera on the inner screen. This means you can use the larger display for video calls without having a camera cutout taking up much space on the screen. It should be particularly useful when the phone is opened for video calls, while also keeping the inner screen cleaner when you are watching videos or using apps.

Battery and Others

In terms of battery, iPhone Duo uses a dual-cell setup where the batteries are split between the two halves of the phone. This is mainly to make better use of the limited space inside a foldable design. Apple also claims up to 31 hours of video playback on the inner display, while the smaller outer screen can stretch that figure to 44 hours. 

Interestingly, Apple has also moved away from Face ID on this model and uses Touch ID integrated into the side button instead. This is another compromise that comes with the foldable design, but it could still be convenient depending on how you use the phone.

iPhone Duo Price in Nepal and Availability 

Apple has unveiled the iPhone Duo globally, and pre-orders are set to begin on October 16. In the USA, the base 256GB variant is priced at USD 1999 (INR 299,900), while the top-end 2TB model costs USD 3,199 (INR 449,900). We expect Apple to launch this phone in Nepal by the end of September or early October—targeting Dashain. When it arrives here, we expect the iPhone Duo price in Nepal to start at NPR 479,999.
