Pixel Watch was Google’s first take on smartwatches. It came with a minimal design, Fitbit integration, and all the Wear OS goodies. But, like any other Wear OS smartwatch, its battery life was underwhelming. However, that might change with its successor as rumors suggest the next-gen Google Pixel Watch 2 will bring a significantly better battery life.
Pixel Watch 2 Rumors:
Snapdragon W5 chip
As per 9to5google, the Pixel Watch 2 will likely pack Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 chip for the Pixel Watch 2. This will bring a notable performance improvement over Pixel Watch’s Exynos 9110 chip from Samsung. For reference, Mobvoi recently debuted the first Snapdragon W5+ Gen 1 chip with the TicWatch Pro 5.
Besides faster performance, the Snapdragon W5 chip, with its 4nm process and larger 306mAh battery, will deliver better efficiency and battery life if compared to the first-gen model.
Android 13 with Wear OS 4
On top of that, the newly announced Wear OS 4 is also bringing “several updates and optimizations to help your app run as smoothly and efficiently as possible.” This includes dynamic theming, seamless updates (a first for smartwatches), and features ultra-wideband (UWB). UWB enables precise device finding, car unlocking via Digital Car Key, and smooth media transfer to a docked Pixel Tablet or UWB-enabled Nest speaker
It will launch in Autumn later this year, and the Pixel Watch 2 will likely be the first wearable to run on this platform.
Design

As for the design, Google could go with the same circular frame layout while remaining the same sizeable massive bezels. The smartwatch will feature a 1.2″ circular OLED screen with a 384×384-pixel resolution, which is from Samsung Display instead of BOE.

Fitbit sensors
Moving on, the upcoming Pixel Watch is expected to bring all the health sensors as Fitbit Sense 2, which is Fitbit’s most premium smartwatch yet. This includes features like continuous electrodermal activity (cEDA) sensor plus a skin temperature sensor. The former is used for all-day stress tracking and management, while the latter measures your skin temperature.
Other than this, Google’s next smartwatch will include all the usual features like built-in GPS, NFC, and Fitbit’s ECG app as well.
