HMD launches their must powerful phone yet with easy repairability option

HMD has launched the Skyline, its most powerful own-branded smartphone to date. The Skyline introduces “Gen 2 repairability,” allowing users to replace components like screens and batteries on their own. HMD Skyline Overview.

Display and Design

The Skyline comes with a 6.5-inch OLED display with minimal bezels and a centrally located punch-hole cutout for the front camera. It offers Full HD+ resolution and a refresh rate of up to 144 Hz. The HMD Skyline features a matte finish back with a slightly raised camera module positioned at the top left, housing three lenses. The side profile is slim, with a power button, a volume rocker on the right, and a customizable button on the left. 

Performance

Under the hood, it houses a Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chipset. The phone runs on Android 14. HMD promises two OS updates and three years of security patches. Users can choose between two configurations: 8 GB RAM with 128 GB storage or 12 GB RAM with 256 GB storage. Additionally, there is a micro SD card slot, supporting up to 512 GB of extra storage.

Cameras

The rear camera setup includes a 108 MP main camera with OIS, a 13 MP ultra-wide camera, and a 50 MP 2x telephoto camera. The front camera is 50 MP with autofocus, located in a punch hole.

Battery and Charging

The Skyline is equipped with a 4,600 mAh battery. It supports 33W wired charging and 15W magnetic Qi2 wireless charging.

Repairability and Spare Parts

HMD emphasizes easy repairability. Users can open the back cover by unscrewing a single screw. Spare parts are available through iFixit. Prices for parts include $95 for the display, $30 for the battery cover, $25 for the battery, and $20 for the charging port. A fix kit is available for an additional $5.
