HMD Global has launched its first two smartwatches, the Watch X1 and Watch P1, just recently, which makes it their first watch of the year. Both of these models focus basically on what most smartwatches focus. I am talking about basic fitness tracking, battery life, etc. This article covers everything about the latest HMD Watch X1 and Watch P1, including specifications and availability.

HMD Watch X1 and Watch P1 Overview

      Design and Display

The Watch X1 goes for a circular design with a 1.43-inch AMOLED screen at 466 × 466 resolution and 600 nits peak brightness. It supports Always On Display and animated watch faces, measures 46.5 × 46.5 × 11 mm, weighs about 65.5 g, and uses a 22 mm strap. For protection, you are getting the standard IP68-rated for dust and water resistance. And for colors, you get in multiple options like Gray Green, Black, Gray Metallic, and Silver Leather.

On the other hand, the Watch P1 opts for a rectangular shape with a larger 1.83-inch LCD panel at 240 × 284 resolution and 550 nits brightness. It has IP67 protection. But both models charge via proprietary magnetic chargers and pair with the HMD Watch app on Android or iOS.

      Health and Fitness Features

Both watches include heart rate monitoring, SpO2 (blood oxygen) sensor, sleep tracking, and over 700 sports modes. They offer health reminders like inactivity alerts and water-drinking prompts, plus Bluetooth calling for calls directly from the watch, notifications, music control, and ICE (in-case-of-emergency) assistance. Similarly, features like remote health tracking are also mentioned, but most require a connected smartphone. Sadly, neither of these smartwatches features any built-in GPS, which means outdoor activities rely on the phone for accurate location data. And other than that, Watch X1 claims up to 5 days on a single charge, while Watch P1 lasts only up to 4 days.

      Software

They run a proprietary RTOS (real-time operating system) rather than Wear OS or a full smart platform. The features and functions are basic, and hence, as one might expect, no NFC for payments as well.
