It has finally happened. Huawei has finally surpassed Apple in terms of global smartwatch shipments in Q2 2025. The Chinese brand has been catching up to Apple for years now, and for the first time ever, it’s the market leader.
The battle between Huawei and Apple in the global smartwatch market
According to the latest report by Counterpoint Research, Huawei had 21% market share versus Apple’s 17% in terms of global smartwatch shipments in Q2 2025. Xiaomi came in third with 9%, alongside another Chinese brand, “imoo” with 7%, and Samsung in the fifth spot with 6% market share.

And we can also see that while Huawei had an impressive 52% YoY (Year-over-Year) growth, Apple saw a 3% decline instead. Actually, all Chinese brands in the leaderboard see a healthy growth, while Apple and even Samsung had a rough quarter this year.
This should be pretty concerning for the two because the total smartwatch shipment volume itself had grown by 8% in Q2 2025.
The same Counterpoint research also mentions that this shift is largely driven by Huawei’s strong performance in China, where most of its sales come from. Whereas Huawei has been steadily growing its presence in other important markets like Europe, the Middle East, and all over Asia as well.

A long time coming
When you think about it, Huawei’s success has been in the works for quite some time now. That’s because, unlike how Apple only plays in the premium territory, Huawei has a range of wearables from the budget to the premium segment.

And with Chinese brands catering to consumers in every price bracket and pushing hard into global regions, Apple and Samsung are under more pressure than ever to maintain their spot.
