LG unveils CLOiD at CES 2026, a multifunction home Robot aimed at everyday chores

At CES 2026, LG has introduced CLOiD, its first autonomous home robot designed to perform multiple household tasks. Consumer robots have been around for a long time, especially those focused on cleaning or navigation. CLOiD, on the Other Hand, is intended to manipulate objects and coordinate activities across connected appliances. The company has framed the robot as part of its longer-term vision for “reducing manual household labor,” though its real-world usefulness is something to be skeptical of. Anyway, let's dive in this article.

      LG CLOiD Overview

Functionally speaking, according to LG, the robot is designed to handle more varied domestic work, including unloading a dishwasher, folding and stacking laundry, retrieving items from a refrigerator, and performing simple kitchen preparation tasks.

CLOiD uses a wheeled base rather than legs. LG says this design choice improves balance, reduces manufacturing complexity, and lowers the risk of the robot tipping over in homes with children or pets. Navigation technology is derived from LG’s existing work on robot vacuums and earlier service robots. The robot’s torso can tilt to adjust reach and interact with objects from lower cabinets up to countertop height.

The robot is equipped with two articulated arms, each offering seven degrees of freedom. LG states that this range of motion is intended to approximate that of a human arm, such that it can enable the robot to reach, rotate, and reposition objects in confined household spaces.

Similarly, each hand features five independently controlled fingers for manipulation. Hence, through this, the Robot is supposed to take tasks such as handling dishes, folding clothes, and operating appliances. But LG has not yet demonstrated how reliably these actions can be performed under everyday conditions.

      AI Control Center

CLOiD’s head serves as the robot’s primary control and interaction system. It contains cameras, sensors, speakers, a display, and a central processing unit. LG says the robot can communicate using natural speech and facial expressions.

The company also claims the system can learn household routines over time and adjust how it manages tasks accordingly. It relies on voice-enabled generative AI to interpret instructions and coordinate actions.

      LG’s Smart Home Ecosystem

A key part of CLOiD’s functionality depends on LG’s ThinQ and ThinQ ON platforms. Through these systems, the robot can act as a mobile controller for compatible LG appliances.

      LG CLOiD Conclusion and Availability

The company has not disclosed pricing, availability, or performance benchmarks. It also remains unclear how well the robot will handle unstructured home environments, which have historically been a major challenge for household robotics. And other than that, it's unclear why so many people would even find something like this appealing. Considering it's way less complex for people to do such a mundane task on their own. For most people, this solves a problem that doesn’t meaningfully exist. The tech is impressive; the use case seems to be pretty weak.
