The Nothing Ear (a) features an 11mm dynamic driver with PMI + TPU diaphragm and is equipped with Bluetooth 5.3 technology. In addition, the Ear (a) supports various codecs including AAC, SBC, and LDAC, and boasts Hi-Res audio capabilities. Its is compatible with Android 5.1 and later as well as iOS 11 and later. Additional features include Google Fast Pair and Microsoft Swift Pair functionalities.  However, unlike its counterpart, the Nothing Ear, the Ear (a) unfortunately does not support the LHDC codec.

The Ear (a) incorporates several intelligent features such as In-ear detection which enables automatic playback control when the earbuds are worn or removed, while Low Lag Mode, automatically enabled in Nothing Phones and configurable via the app for other devices, minimizes audio latency.

One of the standout features of the Ear (a) is its active noise cancellation (ANC) capabilities. It comes with up to 45dB personalized ANC and environment-adaptive ANC. Meanwhile,  the Smart Adaptive Noise Cancellation offers four modes—High, Mid, Low, and Adaptive. Additionally, Clear Voice Technology is powered by three microphones, providing call quality by effectively canceling out background noise and wind interference.

With a 46mAh battery in each bud, the Ear (a) offers up to 9.5 hours of music playback without ANC or 5.5 hours with ANC activated. When used with the 500mAh charging case, the total playback time extends to 42.5 hours without ANC or 24.5 hours with ANC. Additionally, fast charging capabilities allow for 10 minutes of charging to provide up to 10 hours of playback without ANC. Moreover, the IP54-rated Nothing Ear (a) also comes with features like intuitive pinch controls, playback control, call management, and volume adjustment
