iPhone 15 Pro Overview
Build and Display
The new iPhone 15 Pro sports a titanium alloy frame which adds durability to the design. It is also lighter at 187 grams compared to the 206-gram-ed 14 Pro. Other design changes include the replacement of the mute switch with a new programmable “Action Button” similar to what we saw in the Apple Watch Ultra and Ultra 2. But arguably the most noticeable change is the USB-C port over the iconic lightning.
As for the display, unfortunately, we don’t see any upgrades here. But it is still an excellent screen. The 6.1″ Super Retina XDR OLED panel comes with 120Hz ProMotion and 2,000 nits brightness. The LTPO panel can vary from 1Hz to 120Hz whenever necessary. It has got the same “Ceramic Shield” protection that we’ve been seeing since the iPhone 12.
But one thing that’s different is its bezels, Apple has managed to fit the same screen in a slightly smaller chassis leading to minimal bezels on the iPhone 15 Pro.
Processor
Powering the Pro iPhone is Apple’s latest A17 Pro SOC. This Apple Silicon promises up to 10% improvement over last year’s A16 Bionic. The 3nm chip has an extra GPU core and promises up to 20% improvement in graphical performance. The 16-core neural engine is also twice as fast compared to the last gen. The iPhone 15 Pro also comes with 8GB of RAM for multitasking.
Cameras
Moving on to the cameras, we don’t see any noticeable changes here. Though the phone has improved Photonic Engine and Smart HDR 5, that is not exclusive to the 15 Pro. The triple camera setup on the back still consists of a 48MP primary, a 12MP ultrawide, and a 12MP telephoto camera with up to 3X optical zoom. On the front, the 12MP selfie cam is accompanied by a True Depth Sensor for FaceID. One cool trick of the new iPhones is the ability to capture depth information on all shots. This allows you to change focus points, or turn normal shots to portraits later down the road. Another feature on the Pros is the ability to capture Spatial video that you’ll be able to relive in the Apple Vision Pro.
Rest of the specs
The Pro models have faster USB-3 speeds (up to 10 gigabits per second) compared to the 15 and 15 Plus (USB 2.0 speeds). For wireless connections, you get WiFi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, dual-frequency GPS, and NFC. Ultra-wideband (UWB) connections might see an improvement with the second-gen UWB chip.
