Samsung Galaxy S12 Ultra Overview

Design and Display

Starting with the design, the Samsung Tab S12 Ultra has an Enhanced Armor Aluminum unibody that is just 5.1mm thick. Despite its large size, the tablet weighs 692g for the Wi-Fi version. On the back, Samsung has kept the design fairly clean with a smooth metallic finish and a dual-camera setup. There is also a dedicated magnetic strip for the S Pen, allowing it to attach to the tablet for storage and charging.

Talking about the S Pen, it has a new hexagonal design, giving it a slightly different look from the previous-generation stylus. For durability, the tablet has an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. It is available in Gray and Silver color options.

Moving to the front, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra features a 14.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a 2960 x 1848 pixel resolution and a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. The large screen provides plenty of space for multitasking, watching content, and using the S Pen, while the high refresh rate keeps scrolling and animations smooth. It can also reach up to 1,600 nits of peak brightness, while the 1,000-nit High Brightness Mode also makes the screen easier to see outdoors.

Samsung has also upgraded the Vision Booster, which automatically adjusts the display brightness based on the surrounding lighting conditions. The panel supports HDR10+ for improved contrast and color when watching compatible content.

Performance and Software

Under the hood, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9500 chipset, built on a 3nm process to handle intensive workloads, gaming, and everyday use efficiently. It is configured with up to 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of storage, which is also expandable by up to 2TB with a microSD card. This gives the tablet plenty of room for demanding apps and other files.

For thermal management, Samsung has also upgraded the advanced Vapor Chamber to help dissipate heat during demanding tasks. According to Samsung, the Tab S12 Ultra offers a 61% improvement in NPU performance, along with 19% faster CPU and 17% faster GPU performance compared with the previous-generation Tab S11 Ultra.

On the software side, the tablet runs One UI 9 based on Android 17 and brings several Galaxy AI features. These include Now Nudge, which can suggest actions based on what's on your screen, and Note Assist for summarizing notes.

Samsung also supports multiple AI agents, including Bixby, Gemini, and Perplexity, which can be accessed through the tablet's side button or the optional keyboard's Galaxy AI Key. Here, the company has also promised up to seven years of OS upgrades and security updates, making it a better option for long-term use.

Camera and Battery

For optics, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra comes with a dual-camera setup, where you get a 13MP main camera paired with an 8MP ultrawide sensor. It can also record videos at up to 4K@60 fps resolution. Samsung has also included AI-powered camera features such as Photo Assist, which can help edit or improve images directly on the tablet.

So while the cameras are capable, they are still more suited for scanning documents and occasional photography than replacing a smartphone camera. On the front, there is a 12MP camera for video calls and selfies.

In terms of battery, the Tab S12 Ultra packs a large 11,600mAh battery with support for 45W fast charging. This should provide enough endurance for long work sessions, media consumption, and other demanding tasks without having to constantly reach for the charger.
