Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 series just launched. Here’s all you need to know

Samsung unveiled the latest refresh to its Galaxy Tab S series of tablets in today’s “Galaxy Unpacked” event alongside its latest foldable and smartwatches. So let’s walk through the specs, features, availability, and expected price of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9, S9 Plus, and S9 Ultra in Nepal.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra Overview:

Design and Display 

First introduced last year, Samsung’s “Ultra” tablet is here to stay. And like its predecessor — the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra — the new Tab S9 Ultra has got a massive 14.6-inch AMOLED screen with WQXGA+ (2960 x 1848) resolution. It also has a fluid 120Hz refresh rate and a 16:10 aspect ratio.

The Tab S9 Ultra gets a metal unibody design with an aluminum frame too. And the notch up front houses a couple of 12MP sensors (one wide and one ultrawide). Whereas the entire Tab S9 series are IP68 dust and water-resistant too; a first-ever on a “Galaxy Tab S” lineup. The included S Pen secures the IP68 rating too. 

Or you can get a separate “S Pen Creator Edition” too, which Samsung says has a better grip and wider tilt angle. Besides the pen, you can also add Samsung’s Book Cover Keyboard into the mix that’ll transform the tablet into a productivity machine. This antimicrobial polyurethane-made cover connects to the tablet via magnetic pins.

Performance and Camera

Powering the Tab S9 lineup is Qualcomm’s “Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy” processor. The Tab S9 Ultra is configurable with up to 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of storage. And you can further add up to 1TB of storage via the micro SD slot. This tablet runs on One UI 5.1.1 with Android 13 on top, and Samsung also promises 4 generations of OS and 5 years of security updates for the entire Tab S9 series.

Either of the 12MP sensors on the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra support 4K 30 fps video recording. It’s also complemented by Samsung’s “Auto framing” technology that works similarly to Apple’s Center Stage. That means it can lock focus on the subject to keep it at the center during video calls even when the subject is moving around. Whereas at the back, you get a 13MP primary and an 8MP ultrawide lens.

The Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra gets its juice from a massive 11,200mAh battery that supports 45W fast charging. With this, the tablet can go from 0 to 100% in just 90 minutes, and you can even use it as a power bank for select Galaxy smartphones.

Wireless connectivity options include WiFi 6E, and Bluetooth 5.3. And of course, it is also available in a cellular variant. Likewise, it has an AKG-tuned quad-speaker array with Dolby Atmos. For biometrics, there’s an in-display fingerprint sensor.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra Price in Nepal and Availability

In the US, the Tab S9 Ultra’s WiFi variant with 12/256GB memory goes for USD 1,200, whereas the 16GB/1TB model costs USD 1,620. We expect the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra price in Nepal to start at NPR 184,000 when it launches in Nepal.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S9, S9 Plus Overview:

Moving on, the vanilla Galaxy Tab S9 and the bigger Tab S9 Plus (stylized: Tab S9+) share most of their specs with their Ultra sibling. They’ve got a 120Hz Dynamic AMOLED 2X display, a quad-speaker setup, a metal unibody build quality, and are powered by the same Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy chip.

But as the name suggests, the Tab S9 and Tab S9 Plus are much smaller and lighter than their “Ultra” sibling, with an 11-inch and a 12.6-inch display, respectively. Other than this you’re also only getting a single 12MP ultrawide camera on either of them, while the Tab S9 skips that 8MP ultrawide sensor at the back as well. While their smaller size means Samsung has managed to fit in a relatively smaller 8,400mAh and 10,090mAh battery on these tablets.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 and S9 Plus have a starting price of USD 799, and USD 999, respectively for the base 8/128GB and 12/256GB  WiFi variants. We expect the price of Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 and S9 Plus to start at NPR 110,000 and NPR 145,000 when they launch in Nepal.
