Qualcomm's just unveiled two new entry-level chips—the Snapdragon 6s 4G Gen 2 and the Snapdragon 4 Gen 4. The 4 Gen 4 skips Gen 3 entirely, which makes no sense, and people are questioning whether these are genuine upgrades or just rebranded older chips with confusing new names. Anyway, let's jump into this article, where I will discuss everything about these two new Snapdragon chips.
Snapdragon 6s 4G Gen 2 and SD 4 Gen 4 Overview
Manufacturing and Processor

The Snapdragon 6s 4G Gen 2 is built on a 6nm process node, which is better than the Gen 1's 11nm, but it's still pretty dated. It comes with a Kryo CPU clocked at up to 2.9GHz, which Qualcomm claims is 51% faster than Gen 1. The Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 uses a more modern 4nm process with a different CPU setup. It uses 2 cores at 2.3GHz and 6 cores at 2.0GHz. So the 6s 4G Gen 2 has higher clock speeds but lacks 5G, while the 4 Gen 4 is more modern but clocked lower. It's a confusing tradeoff.

GPU and Display
Both chips use unnamed Adreno GPUs that support displays up to 1080p+ at 120Hz. The 6s 4G Gen 2's GPU is supposedly 20% faster than the previous generation, though Qualcomm didn't provide similar claims for the 4 Gen 4. Neither chip is meant for real gaming, but they are okay enough casual games.
Memory, Storage, and Charging
The Snapdragon 6s 4G Gen 2 supports up to 8GB LPDDR4X RAM at 2,133MHz and UFS 2.2 storage, with Quick Charge 3 (80% in 35 minutes). The Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 is better here—it supports both LPDDR4X and faster LPDDR5 RAM at up to 3,200MHz, UFS 3.1 storage, and Quick Charge 4+ (50% in 15 minutes). So the 4 Gen 4 has the edge in memory speeds and charging.
Camera
Both chips support cameras up to 108MP. The 6s 4G Gen 2 uses a 12-bit triple ISP that can handle 13MP + 13MP + 5MP cameras simultaneously, or 16MP + 16MP with zero shutter lag. The 4 Gen 4 only has a dual ISP and supports 16MP + 16MP with zero shutter lag. Both chips max out at 1080p @ 60fps video recording and don't support AV1 decoding, which is disappointing.
Connectivity
The Snapdragon 6s 4G Gen 2 only supports 4G LTE with 390Mbps download speeds, WiFi 5, and Bluetooth 5.2. The Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 supports 5G sub-6GHz with up to 2.5Gbps download speeds, but it's still stuck with WiFi 5 and Bluetooth 5.1. So the 4 Gen 4 has 5G, but both chips are still missing WiFi 6, which budget chips should have by now.
