The PlayStation 6 (PS6) is steadily progressing toward its anticipated release, with key updates on its development. This article will discuss everything we know so far about the latest Sony PlayStation 6(PS6), including all the leaks, rumors, and availability.
Sony PS6 Overview
System-on-Chip Design
The PS6’s System-on-Chip (SoC) design has been finalized. The SoC is currently undergoing pre-silicon validation, a step before production begins. The A0 tape out is scheduled for later this year. The APU will be produced using advanced TSMC process nodes. AMD will produce the PS6 processor, as Intel lost out to AMD for the PS6’s processor production in 2022.
APU and Processor
The PS6 will feature a semi-custom APU developed by AMD, combining a Zen 5 CPU and an RDNA-based UDNA GPU. The Zen 5 CPU will include 8 cores and 16 threads, providing a significant performance improvement over the PS5’s Zen 2 CPU. The UDNA GPU will be built on TSMC’s N3E process node and is rumored to include X3D cache technology.
Graphics Performance
The PS6 will support 4K gaming at 120FPS and 8K gaming at 60FPS, powered by the Zen 5 CPU and UDNA GPU. The PS6 will likely use AI-based upscaling technologies. Additionally, PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) will be upgraded, and the PS6 is expected to include AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution 5 (FSR 5) for improved frame rates and visual quality.
Sony PS6 Launch Date
The PS6 is expected to launch in 2027, about seven years after the release of the PS5 in November 2020.
