A phone with a pixel-like camera bar!

Tecno has launched a new phone in India, and this time around, it is the new Spark 50 5G. The phone comes with various improvements, which include a bigger battery, a rugged build, and so on. And interestingly, it also comes with a pixel-like module, which has now become a headline on the Internet. Anyway, let's get to the main details now.
Tecno Spark 50 5G Overview
Design
The most notable thing about this device is its rear camera module. Tecno has gone with a horizontal pill-shaped camera bar made from 6-series aluminum, which sits at the top-left of the back panel. In recent years, there has been a surge in Chinese phones following the design language of non-Chinese smartphones (most notably, it can be found in Honor Power 2), and it looks like Tecno has also clearly borrowed a page from Google's Pixel playbook.
The rest of the back is smooth matte polycarbonate with a gradient finish. Similarly, the color options include Fantasy Purple, Champagne Gold, Mint Green, and Ink Black. The device isn't exactly slim, as it measures at 167.9 x 79.3 x 8.2mm and 210 grams, but like Tecno's other counterparts now reigning in the market, they also seem to have opted for a bigger battery than a thin design. Moreover, the device survives up to 1.5 meters of drop and carries an IP64 rating.
Display

On the display side, the phone comes with a 6.78-inch IPS LCD that runs at 120Hz with a 240Hz touch sampling rate. The problem, though, is with the resolution. You are only getting an HD+ at 720 x 1576 pixels, which gives you roughly 254 ppi. And on a 6.78-inch panel, it's definitely not going to be a very pleasant experience as one might expect.
As you shall see, the text generated in the display will look rather soft, and fine details in images are also going to be kind of mushed together, and if you're coming from anything with a Full HD panel, you will find the difference pretty easily. On the other hand, the phone comes with a 560 nits peak brightness, which is workable outdoors, but in 2026, it's on the low end, and it's also not the kind that handles direct sunlight very nicely.
Performance
The Tecno Spark 50 5G is powered by the Dimensity 6400, a 6nm chip from MediaTek, and is paired with a Mali-G57 MC2 GPU. You can get yourself either a 4GB or 6GB LPDDR4x RAM and 128GB of UFS 2.2 storage. For what this phone is, calling, YouTube, Instagram, light gaming,, the Dimensity 6400 is more than enough, but anything heavier than BGMI at medium settings is going to be an awful experience. But there's also a "No Network Communication" feature that lets you connect with other compatible devices up to 1.5km away without cellular or Wi-Fi.
Camera

There's a single 50MP rear camera at f/1.85 with an LED flash, and that's it. It omits ultrawide, or even something as basic as a macro camera. But, at this price, those cameras are often functionally almost useless. And in good lighting, the 50MP sensor turns out good shots, and the PDAF at least helps with focus speed, but low light is where it predictably falls apart.
As mentioned before, the camera bar looks like a Pixel, and the software has AI Eraser 2.0 for removing objects from photos, but the underlying sensor is still budget-tier, so the starting material is what it is. The front is an 8MP shooter that takes basic selfies and video calls well enough. Other than that, you get to shoot videos topping out at 1440p on the rear and 1080p on the front.

Battery and Charging

The phone comes with a 6500 mAh battery. But these days, it has become all too common for phones to feature a 7000 mAh or above cell. Although Tecno has claimed 15 hours of YouTube and 9 hours of PUBG on a single charge, in real life, those figures come in at 60 or 70 percent of that. However, it's still a phone that'll easily go two days with moderate use. And by the way, the phone also supports 45W charging.
