Before getting started, I'd like to state that rumors are currently circulating on social media pages such as Indepth Story and Stock Nepal. There is no concrete info on the launch date; it remains uncertain. Hence, I advise you to take this info with a pinch of salt.

What is Uber?

Uber is an American multinational ride-sharing giant founded in 2009. It is currently available in 70 countries and 10,500 cities worldwide. Talking of the services, it specializes in on-demand rides, food delivery, and courier service as well. Just like how Pathao is doing in Nepal.

As per rumors, Uber is eyeing a landing in the Nepalese ride-sharing arena. We already have key players like InDrive, Pathao, and Yango going toe-to-toe. If the past rumors were true, the Chaudhary group supposedly tried to bring Uber into the Nepalese market. But it has failed to do so.  While the latest rumors have it that local representatives are currently undergoing legal consultations to navigate the registration process under Nepal's updated "Service Industry" laws.

Interestingly, officials from Uber's US headquarters have supposedly visited Nepal in order to study the market and make a landing. If the social media news is to be believed, there are already local teams studying the Pathao vs Indrive vs Yango battle.

If Uber arrives here with a primary focus on affordability, it can disrupt the ride-sharing market. As we know, Nepal is extremely price-sensitive, which is why Yango is topping the charts in this category. Meanwhile, Pathao is arguably the most trusted platform. Likewise, inDrive's bargaining feature has made it a tough competitor in the scene.

As Uber is a giant in other countries, its capital can be a fostering point for its success in Nepal. If done right with effective marketing and useful features, we Nepalese people don't really mind switching. But that's not all: ride sharing carries risks such as accidents and mishaps, so insurance coverage is also very important. But as I mentioned at the beginning, the Uber launch is still a rumor. The company has not made any claims as of the date of this article. So, we'll have to wait to see if this proves true in the coming days.
