AMD has finally announced its all-new Ryzen AI 400 series laptop APUs at Computex 2026, along with its 9000-HX Series desktop processor and more. These new AI 400 chips from AMD are frankly not so exciting, as they share the same Zen 5 cores and Ryzen AI as we have seen in the previous AI 300 series and are said to arrive in the first quarter of 2026.  So yeah, in this article, I will discuss everything you need to know about the all-new “AMD Ryzen AI 400” mobile APUs, including performance and value.

AMD Ryzen AI 400 Series Processors Overview:

      Still Same Zen 5 Architecture

Starting with the architecture, the all-new Ryzen AI 400 series chips still use the older yet efficient “Zen5” and “Zen5c” cores that we have seen on the Ryzen AI 300 series. The code name for this new “Ryzen AI 400” series is “Gorgan Point,” which includes a total of 7 chips for laptops. This refreshed lineup still offers up to 12 Zen5 CPU cores and up to 16 RDNA 3.5 GPU cores, but with higher frequencies, expanded memory support, and a souped-up XDNA 2 NPU.Along with this new lineup, AMD has also announced two new entries in its older Strix Halo lineup.

As we can see from the image, the top-end model, i.e., the Ryzen AI 9 HX 475, comes with the complete Gorgan Point die, including 12 Zen 5 cores, 24 threads, 36MB of total combined L2/L3 cache, 60 TOPS NPU, 16 RDNA 3.5 GPU cores that can go a boost up to 3.1 GHz, and support for memory speeds up to 8,533 MT/s. The Ryzen AI 300 series was topped out at LPDDR5X-8000 MT/s.

      More on “Gorgan Point” Architecture

For the newer Gorgan Point chips, AMD has gone with a mix of Zen5 and Zen5c cores, as it did on Strix Point SKUs. And still, AMD uses the same process as it did in its Strix Point, which is TSMC’s N4X node. Additionally, it is an enhanced version of TSMC’s 5nm process with higher density.

Talking about core performance, the Zen5c cores are roughly 25% smaller than the regular Zen5 cores, but they deliver the same performance. However, they are clocked lower compared to the regular Zen 5 cores.

All Ryzen AI 9 models, as well as the Ryzen AI 7 450, feature full-fledged four Zen 5 cores, with the remaining cores to be Zen 5c. The Ryzen AI 7 445 and Ryzen AI 4 435, both 6-core/12-thread, feature two Zen 5 and four Zen 5c cores, while the four-core Ryzen AI 5 430 has a single full Zen 5 core.

      AI and Battery

AI is another place where AMD is primarily focusing on its Ryzen AI series. On these newer chips, we get up to 60 TOPS of processing on the higher-end Ryzen AI 9 HX 475, even 10 TOPS more than the latest Intel Pather Lake CPU.

As per AMD, the battery life on these chips is far better compared to the previous generation and provides nearly 24 hours of uninterrupted usage.

      What about Graphics?

According to AMD, the all-new Gorgon Point chips feature a more capable Radeon 830M iGPU. In terms of gaming, these chipsets should deliver higher frame rates than current Intel or Qualcomm competitors.

AMD also compared its chips with Intel's Ultra Core 9 288v

AMD also compared its Ryzen 9 HX 470 against Intel’s Core Ultra 9 288V via sharing slides.

As you can see, in content creation, AMD claims a +71% average uplift across common apps, and talking about gaming, AMD claims around +12% average FPS gain at 1080p low settings, with per-title result as shown as 105% (F1 25), 105% (Borderlands 3), 105% (Cyberpunk 2077), 114% (Sid Meier's Civilization V), 116% (Monster Hunter Wilds), 119% (Black Myth Wukong), and 119% (Counter-Strike 2).

      Okey.. What's the conclusion

Okay, based on all the specs, the Gorgan Point chips this time mostly seem like just a frequency bump with the CPU and GPU cores clocked higher with support for faster memory.

      Gorgon Point CPUs and Availability

Laptops with the new Ryzen AI 400 chips are said to arrive worldwide in the first quarter of 2026, with AMD naming partners such as Acer, ASUS, HP, and Lenovo.
Plus, there are rumors that Lenovo is preparing to release its new Legion 7a and Legion 5a with these new chips, which are expected debut at CES 2026.
