inDrive, formerly InDriver, was founded in 2013 in Yakutsk, Russia. It began as a response to high taxi fares during extreme winter weather when residents organised rides via a local social media group. It has since evolved into a global ride-hailing app with a unique “peer-to-peer” model, allowing passengers and drivers to negotiate fares directly rather than relying on fixed or surge pricing. This feature makes it especially popular in regions with high price sensitivity, offering greater affordability and flexibility for users. Expanding rapidly, inDrive now operates in 47 countries across 700+ cities.
It is one of, if not, the most popular ride-sharing platforms in Nepal too. While the brand entered the Nepali market sometime in 2022, it only announced its official entry in May 2024. Initially, InDrive operated without charging any commission, attracting a lot of riders. However, now they charge a 10% service fee, which is still quite low compared to some other ride-sharing platforms in Nepal.
