Huawei Pura X Max has finally arrived in China. It's a proper widescreen foldable phone to hit the market, beating Apple and Samsung's rumored foldables with a similar design. Huawei had actually already launched a similar wide foldable phone back in 2025, called the Pura X, although that thing had a relatively small 6.3-inch main display. Compared to a much larger 7.7-inch main display on the Pura X Max.
Huawei Pura X Max Overview
Design and Build
Starting with the design, the Huawei Pura X Max has a premium build quality through and through. It's got aluminum frames, an aluminum back, while the cover display has been protected by Huawei's own 2nd Gen Kunlun glass. The Pura X Max is 85mm wide and 11.2mm thick in its folded state.
To put that into perspective, the Galaxy S26 Ultra and the iPhone 17 Pro Max measure roughly 78mm wide—and are around 8mm thick. Whereas when you unfold the Pura X Max, it is 166.5mm wide and just 5.2mm thick.

In terms of durability, Huawei has secured IP58 and IP59 ratings for this foldable phone, which is pretty impressive. What's even more impressive is that the Pura X Max's main display also supports stylus input with the Huawei M-Pen 3. We would've loved to see Huawei find a way to fit the stylus inside the phone itself, but it's alright.
Display
Moving on to the inner display of Huawei Pura X Max, you're looking at a 7.7-inch LTPO OLED panel with a roughly 16:11 aspect ratio. So compared to traditional foldable phones that unfold into a squarish device, the Pura X Max has a more traditional widescreen aspect ratio like a tablet. Making it much more useful for things like watching movies or using productive apps.

Similarly, its outer screen features a 5.4-inch LTPO OLED panel with a squarish aspect ratio. Both screens come with an adjustable 1-120Hz refresh rate, 10-bit colors, and 1,440 Hz PWM dimming to help protect your eyes during extended use. It also offers a pretty good touch sampling rate of 240Hz, which can significantly reduce the delay while using this device.
Performance and Software
As for performance, the Pura X Max uses the Kirin 9030 Pro SoC built on a 6nm process. This is quite an upgrade from the Kirin 9020 SoC on last year's Pura X, with Huawei claiming 20% better CPU, 40% better GPU, and 70% better NPU performance. So you can expect more responsive day-to-day performance and a more stable gaming experience as well.

Memory-wise, Pura x Max is available with a single 12GB RAM and up to 512GB of storage in the standard variant. While its "Collector's Edition" has 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of storage.
In terms of software, this phone runs on HarmonyOS 6.1, which includes various AI features on top of UI/UX optimizations. Here, you can get hands-free reading with AI eye tracking, and it even has fraud prevention features built in. Moreover, it also provides an AI companion for multi-step tasks across the apps.

Camera and AI features
Moving to the optics, Huawei Pura X Max has a 50MP main sensor, paired with a f/1.4 – f/4.0 variable aperture lens. Then there's a 12.5MP f/2.2 ultrawide camera and a 50MP periscope telephoto lens with 3.5x optical zoom. Here, both the telephoto lens and the main camera support OIS, which should make it particularly well-suited for low-light photography and stable 4K video recording. On both screens, the Pura X Max also has an 8MP camera for video calls and selfies.

Interestingly, this phone comes with an AI posing feature, which Huawei claims is the world's first. The Pura X Max can analyze the real-world background and recommend a suitable pose for you. This feature might be very handy for some users, reducing the need to brainstorm about a pose appropriate to the background. We've also seen a similar experiment with “Camera Coach” on the Google Pixel 10 series.
Battery and others
As for battery, Huawei packs a 5300mAh battery in this foldable phone, which is around 13% larger than that of the Pura X. It supports 66W wired charging and 50W wireless charging. And in terms of wireless connectivity, it features Bluetooth 6.0 and dual-band Wi-Fi 7.
