iPhone 17 Pro Max Overview
Display and Design
The 17 Pro Max keeps the 6.9-inch OLED screen, same resolution as before, but it’s noticeably brighter. Up to 3,000 nits when you're outdoors. Apple also mentions that this screen's contrast is twice as good in sunlight. The display is now protected by a 3x more scratch-resistant Ceramic Shield 2 glass, while the back panel gets the Ceramic Shield treatment. The exact display resolution is 2868 x 1320 pixels at 460 ppi, with an anti-reflective coating and IP68 water resistance (up to 6m for 30 minutes).
Interestingly, the Cupertino-based tech giant has decided to forgo the more expensive Titanium body this time, opting for a 7000-series aluminium body on both the iPhone 17 Pro and the iPhone 17 Pro Max. Apple specifically chose aluminium over titanium for better thermal management and heat dissipation, with the aluminium being heat-forged for strength and thermal conductivity.

The 17 Pro Max comes in "Cosmic Orange", "Deep Blue", and "Silver" color options. As you can see, Apple has repositioned its logo slightly lower and replaced the standard square camera module with a longer camera strip.
Thickness is up slightly to 8.75mm, mostly to accommodate the larger battery. Compared with the standard iPhone 17 Pro, the Pro Max is larger, heavier, and offers longer battery life. That's it. The other difference is that, unlike the 17 Pro, the iPhone 17 Pro Max is also available with 2TB of storage.

Performance
And powering it all is Apple's new A19 Pro chip with a 6-core CPU, 6-core GPU, and 16-core Neural Engine. Memory sees a notable bump with 12GB RAM, compared to 8GB in the iPhone 16 Pro Max. Apple also added a vapor chamber to the iPhone for the first time, reportedly delivering 40% better sustained performance. This vapour chamber technology uses deionised water sealed in a laser-welded aluminium chassis to dissipate heat evenly, preventing throttling during tasks such as gaming or video editing.
In addition to the A19 Pro, the iPhone 17 Pro Max also has Apple's custom-designed N1 wireless networking chip for Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread connectivity.
Camera
Likewise, the iPhone 17 Pro Max features a 48MP triple-camera setup for the first time on an iPhone. That means the main, ultrawide, and telephoto lenses now all use a 48MP sensor.

The telephoto lens has a 100mm focal length, which offers 4x optical zoom and up to 8x optical-quality zoom with 3D sensor-shift OIS. Compared to the 16 Pro Max, which had 5x optical zoom with a 12MP sensor. The telephoto now features a 56% larger sensor and an f/2.8 aperture, supporting 5x optical zoom and 8x optical zoom, with up to 40x digital zoomand continuous optical zoom.
The front camera has also been upgraded to an 18MP square-shaped sensor with "Centre Stage" tech that keeps your subject centred during selfies and videos. The iPhone 17 Pro Max supports 4K Dolby Vision video recording at up to 120fps. It also includes dual video recording, enabling simultaneous front- and rear-capture. The iPhone 17 Pro Max now supports ProRes RAW recording, Apple Log 2, and Genlock to "precisely synchronize video across multiple cameras and inputs."
Battery and the rest
This is also the first iPhone to cross the "5,000mAh battery" territory with a 5,088mAh cell. Apple now claims 33 hours of video playback, compared to 27 hours on the 16 Pro Max. In select markets, including Bahrain, Canada, Guam, Japan, Kuwait, Mexico, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, the US, and the US Virgin Islands, the iPhone 17 Pro models are eSIM-only.

Should You Buy the iPhone 17 Pro Max in Nepal?
This year’s iPhone 17 Pro Max is a very good flagship smartphone. While it may feel a bit “boring” to some users because it doesn’t introduce dramatic changes, it delivers excellent performance across the board. The iPhone 17 Pro Max scores very highly in almost every category that matters. Whether it’s the camera performance for photos and videos, the powerful performance, reliable battery life, premium design, or the bright display that can also go impressively dim, everything feels A-plus.
Yes, the price in Nepal is on the higher side. However, if you purchase it officially right now, you get Apple AirPods 4 for free. There’s also an EMI option available in Nepal with just a 50% down payment, and you don’t even need citizenship for it. That makes the deal more attractive for many buyers.
That said, if you don’t need the Pro-level camera system or the larger Pro display, the regular iPhone 17 is also worth considering for its price.
And if you’re not part of the Apple ecosystem, you might want to check out the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra as well. We’ll be bringing a detailed comparison soon, so stay tuned for that.
