Moto Pad 70 Groove debuts as a budget tablet that doubles as a Bluetooth speaker

Motorola has officially introduced the Moto Pad 70 Groove, a new entertainment-focused tablet that joins the recently announced Moto Pad 70 Pro. The new tablet features a 12.1-inch 2.5K display with a 120Hz refresh rate, a Dimensity 7400 chipset, a 10,200mAh battery, and a 9-unit JBL Pro Speaker System with a dedicated Bluetooth Speaker Mode. In this article, I will discuss everything you need to know about the Moto Pad 70 Groove, including its features, specifications, availability, and expected price in Nepal. 

Moto Pad 70 Groove Overview

Design and Display

Starting with the design, the Moto Pad 70 Groove features a premium metal body with a distinctive speaker housing on the back, giving it a different look from conventional tablets. It measures 6.8mm in thickness (excluding the speaker bump), weighs 775g, and comes in a single Pantone Blue Surf color. Motorola has also included a 360° metal kickstand, allowing users to set up the tablet in Lean, Theatre, Stand, and Hanging modes depending on their needs.

Moving on to the display, the Moto Pad 70 Groove sports a 12.1-inch LCD screen with a 2.5K (2560 × 1600) resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate, offering a snappy scrolling experience. It also supports Dolby Vision and HDR10, covers 98% of the DCI-P3 color gamut, and reaches up to 800 nits of peak brightness for better visibility outdoors. Combined with the versatile kickstand, these features make the tablet well-suited for streaming movies, watching videos, and other entertainment-focused tasks.

Audio System

As mentioned earlier, the Moto Pad 70 Groove's biggest highlight is its 9-unit JBL Pro Speaker System. Unlike the stereo or quad-speaker setups found on most tablets, it combines four tweeters, three woofers, and two passive radiators to deliver a more powerful audio experience. It also supports Dolby Atmos, along with pre-tuned Dynamic, Movie, and Music sound modes for different types of content.

On paper, this setup should deliver a more balanced sound signature, with clearer vocals, punchier bass, and more than enough volume to enjoy movies or music without needing external speakers.

Additionally, the tablet comes with a dedicated “Bluetooth Speaker Mode”, which lets you stream music from your smartphone and use it as a standalone Bluetooth speaker.

Performance and Software

Under the hood, the Moto Pad 70 Groove is powered by MediaTek's Dimensity 7400 SoC, which should comfortably handle everyday tasks like web browsing, media streaming, note-taking, and multitasking. Although it isn't designed to compete with flagship tablets, it should also have enough power for casual gaming.

The tablet is paired with 8GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage, which is expandable by up to 2TB via a microSD card, giving users ample space for apps, games, and other files.

On the software front, the Moto Pad 70 boots Android 16 out of the box. Motorola has promised two major Android OS upgrades (up to Android 18), along with four years of security updates, ensuring the tablet stays supported for years to come.

Camera and Battery

For optics, the Moto Pad 70 Groove features a 13MP rear camera, which should be sufficient for scanning documents, capturing quick photos, and recording videos when needed. On the front, it houses an 8MP camera for selfies and video calls.

In terms of battery life, the tablet packs a 10,200mAh battery, which Motorola claims can deliver up to 15 hours of YouTube streaming on a single charge. It supports up to 45W wired charging, allowing users to top up the battery relatively quickly.

The Moto Pad 70 Groove is priced at INR 36,999 for the sole 8GB + 256GB variant in India. It will go on sale starting August 7 via Motorola's official website, Flipkart, and authorized retail stores. While Motorola has yet to announce its availability in the local market, if the tablet launches in Nepal, we expect the Moto Pad 70 Groove price in Nepal to be around NPR 59,199.
