This phone has a major upgrade in its battery and chipset, but its camera might surprise you.

Motorola is back in India with yet another premium mid-range smartphone, the Edge 70 Pro, targeting users seeking flagship-level performance at a lower price. Here, it comes with the Dimensity 8500 Extreme SoC and an upgraded 6500mAh battery. And yes, it has a great upgrade over its predecessor, the Motorola Edge 60 Pro, but you can also see a major downgrade in its optics. In this article, I will discuss everything about the Motorola Edge 70 Pro, including its expected price in Nepal, specifications, and availability.
Motorola Edge 70 Pro Overview
Design and Display
Starting with the design, Motorola has kept its signature squarish camera island in the Edge 70 Pro, too. The difference is that this island looks glossy and has also moved the LED flash to a new position compared to its predecessor. Interestingly, Motorola has two options for the weight and thickness. Here, the Acetate finish weighs 190 grams and has a thickness of 7.29, while the Slik-inspired finish weighs 183 grams and has a thickness of 6.99. It's up to you what you prefer.

Moreover, this phone has 3 color options with different finishes. Here, “PANTONE Lily White” has a marble finish, “PANTONE Tea” has a luxe stain finish, and “PANTONE Titan” has a tailored fabric finish on the back. It also has an IP68/IP69 rating and MIL-STD-810H compliance, making it reliable for use in light rain without worry.
For display, this phone has maintained its curved design while opting for an AMOLED panel over the P-OLED panel we saw in its predecessor. This display offers you 1.5k (1272 x 2772 pixels) resolution and a large 5200-nit peak brightness, which should be pretty good for watching high-quality HDR videos.
Here, social media scrolling and playing high-end gaming should also be smooth enough, all thanks to its 144Hz refresh rate. Moreover, you only get Corning Gorilla Glass 7i protection; the mosh level 4 that you saw in its predecessor has gone.
Performance and Software
Under the hood, Edge 70 Pro uses the MediaTek Dimensity 8500 Extreme SoC built on a 4nm process. With this CPU upgrade, we can see 40-50% better performance on the new phone than its predecessor. You might also experience 15-20% better battery life in normal use with this chip.

Here, you can expect this phone to deliver decent frame rates for games like Genshin Impact and PUBG. But if you are looking for a dedicated gaming phone in the same price range, you can go for the OnePlus Nord 6.
Memory-wise, the Edge 70 Pro comes with 8/12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB of UFS 4.1 storage. While in the case of software, this phone runs on Android 16. Motorola has also promised up to 3 major Android updates and 5 years of security patches, which is quite decent for long-term use.

Camera and Battery
As I mentioned earlier, the optics for the Edge 70 Pro are a major drawback. The 10MP telephoto lens and variable aperture on the primary sensor you saw in the Edge 60 Pro are gone. I feel it's quite disappointing that a premium mid-range phone doesn't include a telephoto sensor. This time, you only get a 50MP Sony LYTIA 710 main sensor with a fixed f/1.9 aperture paired with the 50MP ultrawide lens.

Nevertheless, it retains the 50MP selfie camera with a minor aperture upgrade. While both camera modules can record 4K video, the color depth might not be as vivid as we saw on the Edge 60 Pro, since this phone no longer has a color spectrum sensor on the back.
As for the battery, the Edge 70 Pro packs a 6500mAh battery, a decent upgrade over its predecessor. And it is paired with 90W TurboPower fast charging for quick top-up. It also gives the Wi-Fi 7 (tri-band), and Bluetooth 5.4 for the connectivity.
