MSI just launched the MAG 274QP X24 gaming monitor in the US. The pricing however, appears to me a bit right in that awkward middle ground where it's too expensive to impulse-buy but still cheaper than the really high-end stuff. It costs around 500 bucks, which isn't terrible for a QD-OLED panel, but also not cheap enough to ignore what you're getting—or not getting—for the money. Now, let's dive in the article.
MSI MAG 274QP X24 Overview
Design and display

This thing has a 26.5-inch QD-OLED panel from Samsung—specifically, the third-generation QD-OLED, which is supposed to be better than the older versions. The resolution is 2560 x 1440, so it's QHD, not 4K. That's fine for a screen this size, and QHD at 240Hz does make more sense than 4K at lower refresh rates if you're actually gaming on it.
The motion clarity is also decent as it got VESA ClearMR 13000 certification. And other than that, HDR is also supported, with a peak brightness of 400 nits and SDR brightness that maxes out at 200 nits. They might feel particularly not bright but most OLED monitors hit similar numbers, and in my opinion, it's enough for HDR content to look decent. The colour coverage should be pretty accurate out of the box as it is rated 99% DCI-P3, and the monitor comes factory-calibrated with a Delta E of ≤2. The stand supports tilt, swivel, pivot, and height adjustment and there's also a VESA 100 x 100 mount.

Performance

The MAG 274QP X24 has adaptive sync, so it'll work with both AMD FreeSync and NVIDIA G-SYNC. If you're using this with a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S, it supports 1080p and 1440p at both 60Hz and 120Hz, plus HDMI CEC and VRR.
Burn-in protection
MSI included something called OLED Care 2.0, which is their burn-in protection system. The monitor does a full panel refresh every 24 hours when it's in standby or powered off, and you get a 30-minute warning before it kicks in.
More importantly, MSI is offering a 3-year burn-in warranty. So if you're planning to use this monitor for hours every day with static UI elements, you've insured.
Connectivity and everything else
The connectivity, however, is kind of bare-bones. You get two HDMI 2.1 ports, one DisplayPort 1.4a, and a headphone jack. That's it. No USB hub, no USB-C, nothing. If you need extra USB ports for peripherals, you'll have to use a separate hub or plug them into your PC directly. The lack of USB-C will be annoying, especially at this price. Even budget monitors are starting to include it, so it feels like a weird omission here.
