NVIDIA could launch ARM-powered laptops later this year

NVIDIA is working on a powerful new laptop chip that could shake up the gaming world. Teaming up with MediaTek, NVIDIA is said to be building an Arm-based APU (Accelerated Processing Unit) that combines a fast processor and a strong graphics card into one chip.  Let’s talk about the upcoming NVIDIA gaming chipset in detail.

Bringing ARM to serious gaming laptops

Back in early 2024, NVIDIA’s CEO, Jensen Huang said the company had plans for an Arm CPU in its AI supercomputer, Digits. Around the same time, Dell CEO Michael Dell teased that something big with NVIDIA was coming and said to “come back next year” for more info. Now that 2025 is near, those hints are starting to look very real. If the rumors are right, this chip could perform like an RTX 4070 laptop GPU while using much less power.

Finally a real alternative to Intel and AMD

Until now, top gaming laptops have all used x86 chips from Intel or AMD. But this new chip from NVIDIA could shake things up. It will mix a custom-built Arm CPU with a GPU based on NVIDIA’s new Blackwell graphics design. That’s a big deal because it means more speed and better power savings in one chip. And by combining both CPU and GPU into one unit, NVIDIA can make data move faster between the two, and save more energy, too.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 mobile GPU Geekbench test results Max-Q Gaming laptop

This new APU is expected to perform like a laptop running an RTX 4070 graphics card, but it only needs around 80 to 120 watts to do it. That’s incredible considering most gaming laptops eat up way more power for the same kind of speed.

Built with MediaTek using custom CPU Cores

NVIDIA and MediaTek are designing this chip together, and it will likely use custom CPU cores, not the usual ones licensed directly from Arm. That’s exciting because it could let NVIDIA tune the chip for exactly what gamers need: fast performance and quick access to graphics and AI tools. It shows they’re aiming high and trying to do what Qualcomm hasn’t managed yet with Snapdragon chips.

Right now, Windows on Arm isn’t great for gaming. Qualcomm’s chips need Microsoft’s Prism software to run regular games, and even then, performance and compatibility are all over the place. But if NVIDIA’s APU runs games better and maybe even natively, it could finally make Arm laptops good for gaming, not just light office work.

Expect it late 2025 or early 2026

The first laptop using this chip will likely be an Alienware device, and reports say it could launch by the end of 2025 or just into 2026. Given the timing and the tech involved, this could be one of the biggest hardware releases in years, especially if it really delivers RTX 4070-level gaming with half the power use.

Huawei pushes 3nm chip making using alternatives despite U.S. sanctions

Despite ongoing U.S. sanctions and limited access to cutting-edge semiconductor equipment, Huawei is charging ahead with its 3nm chip development plans. In collaboration with domestic foundry SMIC, and through the use of alternative lithography and pioneering materials, Huawei is seeking to close the gap with global chip leaders like TSMC and Samsung. Let’s get into the depths of this big news.

Huawei targets 3nm mass production without EUV

The U.S. has stopped Chinese companies from buying advanced EUV machines from the Dutch company ASML. Because of this, Huawei and SMIC are using older DUV machines combined with complicated multi-patterning techniques like self-aligned quadruple patterning (SAQP). This way can make detailed chips, but it’s more expensive and less efficient, leading to lower production yields compared to using EUV machines.

Huawei-own-chipset

Still, Huawei reached an important milestone by releasing the Kirin X90 chip, which they designed themselves, and SMIC made using DUV and advanced packaging. Although it’s called a 5nm chip, it’s closer to 7nm in size but performs as well as 5nm chips from other companies. Encouraged by this, Huawei has started research and development for real 3nm chips, planning to finish the design by 2025 and possibly start mass production by 2026 or 2027, depending on how the technology develops.

Pushing boundaries with GAA and novel materials

Huawei is working on next-generation chips using two main approaches. The first uses Gate-All-Around (GAA) transistors, a modern design also used by Samsung and TSMC for 3nm chips. GAA transistors use less power and reduce leakage, which helps make chips faster and more efficient.

The second approach is more experimental and uses carbon nanotube materials instead of traditional silicon. These new materials could make chips perform better and use less energy. Huawei has already tested carbon nanotube chips in the lab and is working on making them with SMIC’s factories. Although this technology is still new, it shows Huawei’s goal to overcome current limits and develop advanced chips beyond today’s silicon technology.

What’s next for Huawei?

Huawei’s effort to make 3nm chips without access to important EUV tools shows both smart problem-solving and how important semiconductor independence is for China. With creative solutions, government help, and a focus on new technologies, Huawei is preparing to compete with the top chip makers. If their two-part plan of using GAA designs and carbon nanotube materials works, Huawei could change the global chip industry and prove that innovation can overcome big challenges.

Samsung hints at Galaxy Z Fold 7 Ultra with bigger screens and slimmer body

Samsung has finally given us a glimpse of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 Ultra, its most powerful foldable yet. After months of speculation, the teaser confirms that this new model will join the Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7, and Z Flip 7 FE later this year. The Fold 7 Ultra stands out with its sleek design, bigger displays, and a high-end camera that Samsung calls “best-in-class.” In this article, we will discuss everything we know about the Samsung Z Fold 7 Ultra including its expected specifications and launch date.

Second, the company is promising a top-performing camera, which could rival the best on the market, like the vivo X Fold3 Pro. And third, users will enjoy larger screens both inside and out, thanks to direct feedback that Samsung says it considered carefully.

Other than that

Even though Samsung hasn’t listed everything yet, some leaks and hints give us a good idea of what to expect. We’re likely getting an 8.2-inch main screen and a 6.5-inch cover display which is great for watching content and multitasking. The battery will stay at 4,400mAh, just like previous models, but with a new chip inside, it should still perform well. And with a folded thickness of around 9mm, it’s noticeably slimmer than before, helping it feel much easier to carry around.

Sharp Aquos Wish 5 launches as a tough and simple budget smartphone for everyday use

Sharp has launched the Aquos Wish 5, a low-cost smartphone packed with practical features for people who want something simple, strong, and easy to use. With a clean design, high waterproof rating, Android 15, and safety tools this phone shows what a good budget device can look like in 2025. In this article, we will discuss everything we know about the Sharp Aquos Wish 5 including its specifications and its release date.

Aquos Wish 5 Overview

Design and Display

Sharp has given the Aquos Wish 5 a clean and colorful design. They made the body using about 60% recycled plastic, which comes in MISORA, NADESHIKO, WAKABA, YUKI, and SUMI  colors all inspired by Japanese nature. Designed by Kazushige Miyake, it keeps things simple with flat edges, soft corners, and a smooth camera bump that blends in with the back.

Aquos Wish 5 Design

On the front, the phone has a big 6.6-inch screen with a 120Hz refresh rate that makes scrolling smooth and fun to look at. Even though the resolution is just 1612 x 720, the display still looks fine for daily use, thanks to the bright panel. This phone is tough. It has top-level waterproof ratings like IPX5, IPX8, and IPX9, and also passes the MIL-STD-810H military test. That means it can handle dust, water, drops, heat, and cold. With all that protection, you don’t have to worry about using it outdoors.

Performance and Battery

Under the hood, the phone runs on the MediaTek Dimensity 6300, a chip with two powerful 2.4GHz cores and six efficient ones, which helps it handle everyday tasks pretty smoothly. This isn’t a gaming phone, but it works well for basic apps and light multitasking.

Moreover, the device gives you 4GB of RAM and a choice between 64GB or 128GB of internal storage, which you can expand up to 2TB with a microSD card. That’s plenty of space for a budget phone. Also, with virtual memory expansion up to 4GB, switching between apps feels faster.

MediaTek Dimensity 6300 processor

On the software side, it runs the latest Android 15, and Sharp promises two major Android updates and four years of security patches, which is great at this price. The 5,000mAh battery can easily last a day or more. It supports 27W fast charging through USB-C, taking around 130 minutes to fully charge. There’s also an Intelligent Charge system that stops charging at 90%, helping your battery last longer over time.

Camera and Rest

On the back, you’ll find a single 50.1MP camera. Thanks to Sharp’s ProPix Lite engine, photos come out more clearly and brighter, especially in the dark. On the front, there’s an 8MP selfie camera, which does the job for video calls and social media.

Aquos Wish 5 Camera

The phone has just one speaker, but it sounds fine for watching short videos or calls. You can unlock it either by fingerprint (on the power button) or face scan, even if you’re wearing a mask.

One cool feature is the shake-to-alert emergency tool. If you shake the phone, it makes a loud alarm, calls your emergency contacts, and shares your location even if the phone is in your bag. It also has an AI call assistant that blocks scam calls and changes voicemails into text.

Aquos Wish 5 Specifications

Sharp hasn’t shared the exact price yet, but it’s clearly aimed at the budget smartphone market. The Aquos Wish 5 will be released in late June 2025 in Japan, Taiwan, Singapore, and Indonesia. There’s no official word yet on a wider release, but the design and features make it appealing for more markets in the future.
