ASUS and Microsoft have announced two new handheld gaming devices: the ROG Xbox Ally X and the ROG Xbox Ally. These devices are a result of their collaboration to combine ASUS hardware with a new version of Windows tailored for portable gaming. This article will discuss everything about the latest ROG Xbox Ally series, including its expected price in Nepal, specifications, and availability.
ROG Xbox Ally Series Overview
Hardware and Performance
The ROG Xbox Ally X features the AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme processor, while the regular ROG Xbox Ally comes with the Ryzen Z2 A processor. In addition, the Ally X offers 24GB of LPDDR5X RAM at 8000MHz and 1TB storage. Meanwhile, the Ally provides 16GB RAM at 6400MHz and 512GB storage.
Display and Build
Both models include a 7-inch LCD display with 1080p resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. The displays are protected by Gorilla Glass Victus and include DXC anti-reflection coating. There is no OLED option on either device. The hand grips on both models are based on the Xbox Wireless Controller design.
Controls and Interface
The control layout is similar to older Ally models but now includes an official Xbox button. The Ally X includes impulse triggers, while the Ally has standard hall effect analog triggers.
Ports and Connectivity
Both versions include two USB-C ports, a headphone jack, UHS-II microSD card slot, Wi-Fi 6E, and Bluetooth 5.4. However, the Ally X replaces one of its USB-C ports with a USB 4 port. Meanwhile, the ROG Xbox Ally X has a larger 80Wh battery, while the Ally has a 60Wh battery.
Software Experience
Both models run a custom version of Windows optimized for handheld use. The interface includes a new Xbox full-screen mode designed for controllers. It supports games from Microsoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games. Microsoft is also working with developers on a game verification system. Both devices will come with Xbox Game Pass and a new version of Roblox. Gaming Copilot is also included but was not highlighted as a major feature.
