      Samsung SmartTag3

Samsung has updated its Galaxy SmartTag lineup after nearly three years with the new Galaxy SmartTag3. The biggest change this time is that Samsung is opening up its tracker to iPhone users, removing one of the main limitations of the previous models.

      Key Highlights

      • The Galaxy SmartTag3 is the first SmartTag to support both Galaxy and iOS devices.
      • It is around 35% smaller by volume and 33% lighter than the SmartTag2.
      • The tracker offers up to 550 days of battery life, extending to 790 days in Power Saving Mode.
      • Bluetooth 6.0 Channel Sounding expands Compass View guidance up to 60 meters on supported Galaxy devices.

Alongside the wider compatibility, the new SmartTag3 also gets a more compact design and several changes aimed at making it easier to keep track of everyday belongings.

So, let’s take a closer look at what the Galaxy SmartTag3 has to offer, along with its features, pricing, and availability in Nepal.

      Samsung SmartTag3 Overview

      Build and Design

The Galaxy SmartTag3 comes in a more compact form than the previous SmartTag2. Samsung says it is around 35% smaller by volume and 33% lighter than its predecessor, making it easier to attach to smaller bags, luggage, keys, or even a pet collar.

It features a rounded design with an aluminum-decorated button. However, Samsung has removed the built-in keyring opening found on the SmartTag2. Instead, users can attach the tag using separately sold accessories, including a Silicone Case with a keyring and a Loop Case. The SmartTag3 also retains an IP67 rating, providing protection against dust and water.

      Tracking and Connectivity

The Galaxy SmartTag3 uses Bluetooth 6.0 Channel Sounding to improve its Compass View feature. On supported Galaxy devices, it can provide distance and directional guidance from up to 60 meters, which Samsung says is around three times farther than the previous generation.

For closer tracking, the tag also supports UWB (Ultra-Wideband), which helps pinpoint its distance and direction more precisely. However, this feature requires a compatible Galaxy phone with UWB support.

If the tag is out of Bluetooth range, Samsung’s Galaxy Find Network can help locate it using nearby Galaxy devices.

The SmartTag3 also keeps track of where the tag has been through Location History, while the new Movement Detection Alert can notify users when movement is detected.

      Android and iOS Compatibility

The biggest change with the Galaxy SmartTag3 is its support for both Galaxy and iOS devices. Samsung says this is the first Galaxy SmartTag to offer cross-platform compatibility.

Through SmartThings Find, users can check and share a tag’s location and use supported finding features from compatible Galaxy or iOS devices. This could be useful when family members or friends use different smartphone platforms but need access to the same tagged item.

However, some features remain dependent on the device and platform. For example, advanced features such as Compass View require compatible Galaxy devices with UWB or Bluetooth Channel Sounding.

      Battery and Other Features

The Galaxy SmartTag3 uses a replaceable CR2032 coin-cell battery. Samsung rates it for up to 550 days of use, while Power Saving Mode can extend this to up to 790 days.

The tag also supports NFC-powered Lost Mode, which can display registered contact information or a message when someone scans a lost tag with a compatible phone. Its button can also be used with SmartThings IoT Control to trigger preset routines for compatible smart-home devices.

Samsung has also retained features such as Left Behind Alert, which can notify users when their phone loses connection with a tagged belonging.
