Sennheiser MOMENTUM True Wireless 5 debuts with Dolby Atmos and replaceable batteries!

Sennheiser is giving its flagship true wireless earbuds a more meaningful upgrade with the new MOMENTUM True Wireless 5. As the successor to the MOMENTUM True Wireless 4, the fifth-generation model brings refinements across the listening experience, from a redesigned fit and improved noise cancellation to better call performance.

However, the biggest change is something you may not notice at first glance. Sennheiser has made both the earbud and charging case batteries user-replaceable, addressing one of the biggest limitations of conventional wireless earbuds. 

Beyond these headline upgrades, the MOMENTUM True Wireless 5 packs several other changes, including updated connectivity, enhanced voice processing, new audio features, and improvements to its companion app. In this article, I’ll cover everything you need to know about the Sennheiser MOMENTUM True Wireless 5, including its features, key specifications, and availability.

Sennheiser MOMENTUM True Wireless 5 Overview

Design and Comfort

The MOMENTUM True Wireless 5 gets a redesigned aerodynamic and finless form factor aimed at improving comfort and stability. Sennheiser developed the shape using data from thousands of individual ear models, while the redesigned ear tips are intended to improve both fit and passive isolation. According to Sennheiser, 73% of testers found the new design more comfortable than the previous generation.

The earbuds carry an IP54 rating for protection against dust, sweat, and splashes. They are available in five metallic finishes: Graphite, Cream, Copper, Denim, and Lavender.

The charging case has also been redesigned with a slimmer profile and low-friction finish, making it easier to carry and slide in and out of pockets.

Audio and Connectivity

The earbuds retain Sennheiser’s 7mm TrueResponse dynamic drivers, which are designed to deliver a detailed and balanced sound with strong bass. They cover a 5Hz–21kHz frequency range, have a sensitivity of 107dB SPL, and offer less than 0.08% total harmonic distortion for cleaner audio reproduction.

The earbuds support A2DP, AVRCP, and HFP Bluetooth profiles, along with multipoint connectivity, Google Fast Pair, and Microsoft Swift Pair. A selectable Robust Mode is designed to maintain a more stable connection in areas with heavy wireless interference, such as airports and train stations.

ANC and Calls

Sennheiser has upgraded the MOMENTUM True Wireless 5's adaptive hybrid active noise cancellation system. The new ear tips work alongside a four-microphone array on each earbud, while an automatic anti-wind mode helps reduce wind noise when listening outdoors. The earbuds also feature a micro-perforated acoustic microphone plate designed to reduce wind turbulence.

For calls, the earbuds use six microphones and two bone-conduction voice accelerometers. An AI-based speech-extraction system combines these inputs with beamforming to isolate the user's voice from surrounding noise. The microphone system supports a super-wideband telephony mode with a frequency range of up to 16kHz. Sennheiser has also improved the transparency mode for more natural ambient sound.

Dolby Atmos and Smart Features

The MOMENTUM True Wireless 5 supports Dolby Atmos, creating a more immersive, three-dimensional sound experience. Its interactive head tracking keeps the sound positioned as you move your head, making compatible music and videos feel more natural and engaging.

Battery and Charging

The MOMENTUM True Wireless 5 offers up to 12 hours of music playback with ANC turned off and up to 6 hours with ANC enabled. Combined with the charging case, total playback reaches up to 40 hours.

The earbuds use 72mAh batteries, while the charging case has a 760mAh battery. A full charge takes around 1.5 hours, while an eight-minute quick charge provides up to one hour of playback. The case also supports Qi wireless charging, allowing you to charge it simply by placing it on a compatible wireless charging pad without needing to plug in a cable.

One of the biggest changes is the introduction of user-replaceable batteries. Both the earbuds and charging case use replaceable lithium-ion cells that can be changed using standard tools. This means users can replace worn batteries instead of replacing the entire earbuds when battery capacity declines.
